Dr. Bob,
I really appreciate your web site. I think it is the best as far as real world knowledge on depression and other mental illness. However, it is the only site I use on the Internet where my work will just disappear when I open a couple of other windows. I get tired of retyping my post, so I often will just skip it. I know I should just write my post in Word and paste it in, but sometimes I'm too lazy. Why don't you find a web site guru and have them fix the problem?
Again, I really appreciate your site.

Sorry, what exactly causes your work to disappear? You're not closing windows before clicking "confirm", are you?

Well I have lost stuff, but its usu cuz i been messing w/the windows.
So now I kinda paranoid, and even though i would like to go back somewhere to look for something I often don't.
Sometimes I just open another new internet explorer window to look stuff up so it supposedly won't interfere with the one I working with. Thats the theory anyways.
IF I actually remember I will control/a and right click and copy my message once in awhile, just in case.
I also get these helpful windows that pop up and tell me that I done something wrong etc.
They have saved me once or twice.

It is not all of the time but usually when I have about three windows open. Often I will have Babble, PubMed, and an advanced Google search window open at the same time. Switching between these windows will sometimes close the Babble window down. No, I don't exit out of the program. If I have confirmed my post and waited for the reply, I have no problem.I really know nothing about Perl programming so I'm not much help with a spell checker. A google search comes up with this, some say they work in Perl.

you're not using firefox are you?
thats something that often happens to me in firefox.. but the window only "hides", and if I do alt-tab and tab through the avilable windows, its there and reappears when I select it.

Hmm, I've run into one issue myself. Sometimes a Babble window will bring itself to the front. If things are slow and that takes some time and you don't wait and switch to another window and then decide to close that window, if the Babble window loads and brings itself to the front before you hit "close", you'll end up closing the Babble window instead of the other one. Might that be it? Is the Babble window being closed down instead of another window?

The same thing happened again today, so I ran a test to see if I could duplicate the situation. It seems to be a conflict between Babble and PubMed. I'm running XP Home Edition with all of the latest updates. Usually I'll have my Outlook Express InBox open, responding to a thread I'm following. If I start a post in Babble, then open a PubMed window, this is when the Babble window with my current posting will disappear. If I do a CTRL/ALT DELETE to look at the open applications, the Babble session is gone. I tested it twice today, and the Babble window went away both times.

On further testing, the Babble window only disappears when I call it up from a link in my E-Mail. If I load the program from my desktop there is no problem when I start PubMed. If I follow this sequence the Babble window will go away every time:1. Load Outlook Express and call up Babble through a link to a thread I am following.
2. Minimize Babble & Outlook Express, and load PubMed from my desktop.
3. At this point the Babble window is gone. Verified through Windows Task Manager/Applications.
The problem seemed intermittent because sometimes I will load Babble from my desktop (no problem). It is always when I load Babble from a link in Outlook Express that the problem arises.

Hi again,
Looks like it is an operating system glitch; maybe in XP or just my wierd computer. I cleared out all cookies and it didn't make a difference. Tested the problem with another link from Outlook Express to a different web site and it did the same thing. The problem only occurs when I'm loading an internet program. It doesn't happen when loading a local program. Oh well, operating systems are so complex now it is amazing that they work at all!
