It made me jump to suddenly find Dr.Bob staring back at me from the top of the babblemail page. That grainy carnation has been there for so long.

Thanks for changing the pic, Dr. Bob. That carnation was beginning to look tattered and just blah.....or...that could be a mood disorder symptom :-)

Anyway, I like the new one a lot, 'cept that on my computer you are quite orange. Like excessive sunlamp or jaundiced orange. hmmmm.....

I think it's a self-tanning lotion that Dr Bob went a bit overboard on.

I have an idea, Dr Bob

Yeah, there are times and places that word has been/can be used as an insult. But that's not important - that's just *my* experience in life. That's not what the standard is here, as many of us would have totally different experiences and possibly just endlessly disagree on which words need an asterisk.

So, Dr. Bob chose a while back to go along with Merriam-Webster's classification of which words are *usually* derogatory, vulgar, etc. So here's what that dictionary says for 'wh*tey':

Main Entry: wh*t·ey
Pronunciation: 'hwI-tE, 'wI-
Function: noun
Usage: often capitalized
usually disparaging : the white man : white society

Muffled - it says *usually,* so the system here at Babble will asterisk it. Doesn't mean YOU used it in a disparaging way, and I doubt anyone here thinks so, seeing the context (you directed it at yourself and your kids, for heaven's sake!). But in case someone *might* be offended, the automatic system kicks in.

An asterisk here comes from an automated, computer program just reacting like it's been programmed to do - it's NOT drawing any kind of conclusion about the person who innocently typed a term. It's truly intended to help you (none of us could possibly be aware of ALL the many words M-W classifies this way,) not convict you

You misunderstood nothing.
You did nothing wrong.
You do something helpful (leave your automatic asteisking system turned on.)
And mostly.....getting a surprise asterisk does NOT NOT NOT make you bad. You hear me?!!

Not a Carnation

I submitted the very very altered photo to Dr. Bob because there was one of Dr. Bob looking like he was either
-seroquelled
-sneezing
-distracted
-hemiparetic
-sleepy
-sly
-blinking
-perturbed

for a long time. In a desperate measure to save the facade of this glorious web gathering of psycho babblers, I sent Dr. Bob a selection of Blossoms.

They are heirloom roses photographed in the rose garden at the Biltmore Estate.

Interesting that Dr. Bob selected that particular example, as it was definitely the photo with the oddest contrast and colors.

But, yeah- it WAS getting boring. thanks for your new spin on the corner icon

happy new year to you also, Dr. Bob (If you're reading, and if you've noticed that 2007 is here)

adios amigos,

Did anyone save a copy of the sad Dr. Bob pic? I missed that one. Bob, I hope you don't mind me saving them. I want to collect them all. Rest assured I do not stare at them all day. LOL

Luv you Bob. I'm glad your pic is up again.

Phillipa,
I only photograph the roses that smell good. That's not a joke, by the way. I stop and smell them. Get to know them a bit before I ask them to model for my camera.

sniff....

that one was kind of a dark magenta. very fragrant. about waist high, near corner of the conservatory and on the park side, not the house side.
