Dear Dr Bob,
There are some very erudite posters on psychobabble. They really know their stuff, ie psychopharmacology neuroscience etc... Then there are others, like me, who did not even know what a receptor is when they first joined this message board. I do know now thanks to Wikipedia. But looking in encyclopaedias is not the easiest way to gain knowledge. What I suggest, and I admit to having some brass neck, is that some of the more knowledgable share their knowledge with the less informed.
I wonder if it would be possible due to the kindness and generosity of the 'experts' to post to an education board the basics of psychopharmacology and neuroscience for the benefit of the less informed, like me. I would like to know for instance how various antagonists block various receptors and release various neurotransmitters in the process. I understand some of the terminology but cannot get my head around the process.
Obviously this would depend on the generosity of the instructors and whether they have the free time to donate to this cause. This is only an idea. It may not be a very good idea but nevertheless I have given it an airing...

I'm not sure about a new board, what about collecting links to what's already been posted along those lines? Psycho-Babble Tips:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/psycho-babble-tips/links
is designed for that, but I suppose links could be posted to a specific thread, too...

Maybe we can have a "tips" jar, where we can alert Dr. Bob to a post that is particularly rich in information- perhaps dividing it into
tips for coping in a crisis
tips for understanding medication and pharmacology
tips for understanding psychotherapies
tips for alternative treatments
tips for health concerns"tips" falling into the category of general suggestions or educational information that is suitable for laypersons, civil, contains easily digested research summaries, etc.
maybe we can have nominations or something like that, or we can send a url to Dr. Bob and he can see if a post or a link is suitable to be taken out of the tip jar and posted somewhere more permanent... kind of like a meta-archivenight

I wish I knew more about programming, so I could make suggestions for improving the search functions here.
So often people ask questions that have been answered on the meds board; plus often I try to find information that I remember about someone, because I don't want to ask again, or I'm not sure if I remember it q uite correctly and don't want to misstate.
The search function usually doesn't work, or works very sketchily (one or two things come up,when you know the poster has posted thousands of things), and the things that come up repeat themselves (every post in a thread will often be listed separately), and there's no organization by relevance or date.
I really think it could make this site so much more valuable and meaningful.
If someone tells me how to learn it, I would, because I seriously think it would be that important.

I agree, and this has come up before. It might be possible to go back to the previous search function, does anyone remember that one? Would that be better?
