Okay:
1) How do I prevent babble from memorising my user name and log in info? Or is this a web browser question? At school I use public 'stand alone' computers, which don't require a password to log in (so personal settings could be anyone's) and therefore my babble username and password are saved autimatically. And so anyone could post from this computer using my name and password...luckily I think its highly unlikely they would but still.
2) Also, when the details of the post show up eg posted by xyz at 13th november 13:34 what timezone is this? And if its a particular time zone, can we have it set to GMT ie 0 so it makes it easier to work out when the poster posted it according to your timezone?
Kind regards
Meri

Yes, my password and username have automatically been filled in when I posted this. They didn't before... hmmm I'm using firefox, I swear I changed the preferences so it didn't save passwords automatically....
I'll have another look.

I'm using firefox 1.5.0.7 for mac OSX 10.2.8
Hmmm...... Why did it remember?
Perplexed Meri
and hoping no-one here at uni starts posting under her name!!I'll restart this machine after I've used it....

I asked Dr Bob if it would be possible to display the "current babble time" at the top of each board or something so it would be easier to work out when someone posted..
Apparently its *really* easy to remember what time zone Chicago is in and thus work it out then..
Personally, I can't ever remember *laughing* Being a Brit we're not used to dealing with time zones like alot of others are.. so, I think it was a kind of "tough luck" thing..As for you other question, if you click "extras" at the bottom, you can then find the link for "signing out" of PB.
Yup, really obvious isn't it *laughing*Nikki

Hey Nikki!
Thanks for the help.
Yeah, I'm a brit too, time zones easily confuse me - I'm in finland now and its two hours ahead, its confusing enough. So I'll have to try and sign out next time I'm on a public computer.
So what time zone is chicargo in then? At the very least, perhaps bob could display the time zone abbrivation something like GMT +2 hours (finland) or GMT -7 or whatever. I guess that just this would just be a one off change.... Or he could even just put the abbreviation that they use in American, ummm, east coast time, or whatever they use..I don't even know what they use!
Well I mean, in science you're never supposed to just have a number without a unit attached, if you see what I mean. At least with the timezone abbriavation after the time you could work it out. At the moment, you have no idea when 12.15 is in relation to your time. At least if it said 12.15 GMT or whatever the abbreviations are over the US etc, you'd know..... I mean even a single GMT-5 (thats american east coast time I think) would suffice. That way everyone in the world would know what you meant......is that what you asked about? I'm not trying to suggest that the time ws recalculated for you. But the unit thing would be good, and I imagine, nothing too hard perhaps?
Oh well.
Kind regards
Meri

How many hours is that behind GMT? I have no idea of when Central time zone is in relation to my time.....its an North American thing isn't it? Do you know the GMT of chicago? I think GMT is international you see.....

The converter says GMT -6.
I wouldn't know how to confirm that. :)

Outside of North America, few of us know what Central Time means..
is it 6 hours behind GMT? Or 7? Or 82?!
Bob, please.. think of us non-Americans / Canadians..
A little clock on a page that just says "Babble time is xx:xx" or something would be so helpful.. I'm sure theres HTML out there for pulling in yoru server time, so you should be able to add it to a page no real problem..

Cool, thanks!
> The converter says GMT -6.
> I wouldn't know how to confirm that. :)Sounds about right. From my travels I know that boston is 5 hours behind London, so I guess its right.
So, now to work out what that makes it here, ummm, we're +2 GMT.... so er, BabbleTime must be 8 hours behind MeriTime. (ie 2 plus 6).
So basically, if its midnight in London (GMT 0) its 2am in Finland (GMT +2) and 6pm in Chicago (GMT -6)
To be honest, I would push for the posting times to read xx:xx GMT-6
That way we'd be able to know exactly what time it is wherever we are.....

Merri the coast is Eastern Standard time. That would include Boston when you were there. Love Phillipa. ps 6 hrs difference European time At least from NY to Austria or Geneva.

Well, yes that would be even better, but I think Nikki mentioned that she'd already asked about this, but it would be too complicated. Although it would only require the code (or whatever) to just add 6 hours to whatever time it is in Chicago (asuming the servers are actually in chicargo!)
Anyway, all I'm asking is that the time simply have 'GMT-6' after it, and then at least everybody in the world could work it out.
I guess this is a question for Dr Bob.

Times are complicated because of daylight saving/summer time, but let me see if I can add "this visit" after "last visit" on the main page here...

In this case, you actually want "erase cookies":

Hmm,
It kind of worked..
But it's pulling the time from my computer time, so its showing me the time in GMT (my time zone).. and I know the time here ;)
I want to know what time it is for YOU.. like the rest of the times.
Does that make sense?
Thanks though,
Nikki

If you scroll up to near the top.. beneath the list of boards, but above the Amazon sign..
"Music: Automatic (next time): No Yes
Last visit: 16 November 2006 18:42:14
This visit: 16 November 2006 20:17:01"
But it pulls your local computer time, not the PB server time..

Oh yes I see! Thanks Nikki!
But my orginal request was for the posting times.... so that they'd at least have GMT-6 next to them or something. Or even the actual correct time in your timezone.
I'd even just settle if they had 'chicago time' written after them!
So you know at the top of the posts it reads:
'Posted by XYZ on November 16, 2006, at 11:26:15 Chicago time'.
I would prefer GMT-6, but did Dr Bob mention it was easy because of daylight savings? I think there's even an special abbreviation you use for this.
Oh well, I'm not particulary bothered by it, it'd just be something that would be *nice*.

OK, how about now, this time at the bottom, under the Babblechat count?

That is the whole point of using GMT. There is no
daylight saving/summer time in GMT, so it is not US centric. Even in the US some states do not observe daylight saving/summer time. Just apply
a local offset for your reigion. In MS, click on the time in the lower right corner then click on the "Time Zone" tab. The offset from GMT is listed. In the US the offset is negative, so you subtract it from GMT time. (Assuming you set the time zone correctly)Actually, servers/computers only use GMT. Any time display that is in local time is derived from the servers GMT time.
