Sorry if I'm upsetting you Bob. I just wanted to find flaws in the system. I'm not against you putting up ads if you want to. If I don't like them I can block them out with my browser.
I really do hope you make some money off them. I'll even click on them once in a while if that helps.

Still love you.

Couldn't you just get a bunch of those free laptops you"re advertisng now and resell them?
Your little announcement that you don't endorse these schemes doesn't mean anything. You ARE responsible if you choose to put them on you site.
How much money do you need?

Friends,
It is written here,[...that ad came up at the bottom of one of Lou's posts..(Hitler ringtones)...]
If anyone could post here where one could find that or email me with the post that has that, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Lou

Random ads are not conspiring against you. It just shows how inaccurate Google's software can be. It's nothing personal on the part of Google, I'm sure.

You wrote,[...ads are not conspiring against {you}...]
Are you saying that I wrote something that could be a rational for anyone to make a conclusion that I am thinking that a >conspiring< is taking place here toward anyone including me in relation to ads being placed here by Google? If so, could you post here what it is that you used? If you could, then I could have the opportunity to respond accordingly.

Firstly, bob says this isn't for profit, yet why would he propose to have the ads in the first place, as decoration? So we can get 50 percent off xanax? If you want to make money, I don't care, just why say otherwise? Anyway they are just small ads at the bottom of the screen, why is this an issue - just ignore them

Why would you think that Dr. Bob is making a profit on something that costs him money to maintain? My guess is that the ads likely bring in some money to offset his expenses but do not cover the entire costs.

But doesn't Bob get research grants and things for us? I mean he gets to publish orginal research material from us....sooo.... there should be money in that? Surely?
And anyway, he gets to plug amazon whenever we use the 'double quotes feature'...I think he gets a cut of the profit from that if we then go on to buy something, or something like that....
Kind regards

No, sorry, didn't mean to imply that you said that at all. I was just trying to point out that the ads are random, so I don't see the point in getting too terribly upset about specific ones. Of course, there are plenty of valid reasons not to want the ads on the site, I was just trying to point out that focusing on the specific ads may not be the best way to get the ads removed, if this were a poster's goal.

I think research grants are really to cover the cost of doing the research, not to give a profit. And I'm not sure whether this site is currently being used for research or whether that was only in the past, so there might not be any research grants at all at this point.

the site is not currently considered research from the IRB
he doesn't have any research grants towards running / maintaining the site
i guess he pays for it himself...
but it is true that he has got publications and seminars etc out of it...
and he probably makes more in a year than most of us have ever seen...
i'm pretty sure i remembered reading at one point in the archives he was thinking it would be nice to make money off the site so he could retire or something like that.
who the f*ck knows what the current plan is...
it wasn't so long ago he suggested paying people to help moderate...

I don't want to ruin the surprise for anyone but check out this quote from Dr Bob in reference to money produced by the board by hypothetical paid registrations
>I know, it sounds crazy. And this board wouldn't be what it is without a core of active, knowledgeable, and caring posters.I was thinking that people could not be charged if they posted a certain amount. Or that they could even *receive* something. To compensate them for their contributions. Then I thought:
What if *everyone* received something? I kind of like that idea...
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20000411/msgs/30129.html
Bob mentioned recently that he might try to "find some cents" to pay his Administrative Support Staff so maybe this is what's coming.
But he is so right that the site couldn't exist without the posters. In fact the content of this site is almost all contributions from posters. His massive archives are the source of many of his "customers" as he demonstrates in his lectures by googling effexor. Personally, when Bob asked for the right to use my posts I assumed it would be for helping others by leaving them in the archives or using them in an article or book as he said. I am not happy with his idea of using them to sell advertising for things which I do not wish to promote.
I remembered that quote because I always thought it showed an innocent idealistic side of Bob that I liked. So I thought I'd share :)
Bob could you give an estimate of my share so I can start buying Christmas gifts for little zazenducky junior? Thanks.
Your friend
