My adblock blocks them out, for anyone who doesn't like ads in general.

I use firefox, and they have a pretty effective adblock plug-in.

I think the ads are kinda randomly generated. I get new ads when I open the same post again sometimes.

Afibilify has an ad.

Gee I hope there won't be ads to medications that aren't allowed in the US...

Hmmm, my browser window is small enough that I never saw them. I wondered what y'all were talking about. Scrolled down a bit, and voila!

Glad that I can avoid them.

It hasn't made any difference to the speed on my machine, which has random stutters (and is worst on babblechat).

I don't mind the ads because they are way down at the bottom of the screen and I have to scroll down to see them. If the post I'm reading doesn't require me to scroll down I don't see the ads anyway.

I say, if the site needs revenue from having ads in order to keep going, it's innocuous enough fo me. I'd prefer this to having to pay even a nominal fee to access babble. And it's better than flashing, animated visual distractions that many other ads offer.

I got one that says

"Cure depression in 3 minutes! No drugs necessary!"

Imagine some poor depressed Lindenblüte clicking on that ad, and then finding out that there ain't no such thing, and feeling more despair than ever... :(

-Li

BUT I do like the fact that they are buried at the bottom of the page. checking them out is optional, kind of like how checking out the admin page is optional :)

Actually it really is scary

It just flashed a message for massage clinics located near me, without listing a state or anything. And some of the towns were small enough that no one outside the area would have heard of them. Now how could it know where I'm located?

The second one was for tiny surgical staples for obesity.

So it knows where I live and how much I weigh?

This is really freaking me out.

Because now it thinks I need free criminal defense referral for molestation charges. :(

I'd be surprised if the ads are randomly generated. If they're like google or gmail ads, they're targeted to content. For example, when I get emails from people the ads are clearly on-point to the content of the email. Last night, eg, someone sent me an invitation to a dance performance, and there were five or six (or more?) dance-related ads on that. If it's about the tour de france-- there are bike or other sports ads, etc.

Possibly all the lawyers ads are cause we're crazy. Crazy people tend to get into trouble-- notably, recently, for example, for sexual abuse-- so the ad-generators coughs up lawyer ads.

The slowness? This week, on two days, for hours, I could hardly get on, or couldn't wait for pages to load after a while. I have a highspeed connection, and this wasn't happening anywhere else. But maybe it's cluster of something.

Certainly the ads are easy to ignore. Which makes them a lot more palatable-- the flash ads, etc-- are another case. and if I do need a lawyer--- well actually, I probably would do better on my own.

Well I got a few chuckles reading this thread....some of those ads! Bobbleheads! Vote for Bob Sinclair!

I get boring ads...yellow pages, advertise here....
oh well.

Yeah, I'm totally against them - I'm not even sure they work, I mean who clicks on them anyway?

Oh well.

Kind regards
