Thank you for not having them Dr. Bob.

They make me feel like I'm in a pinball machine.

And the next step is Avitars..
and then taglines..

This has come up before...

At one point I really wished we had emoticons.

Then... After seeing some of the other sites that are out there... Well... Now I'm glad that we don't have them.

I mean...
If you want to encourage people to be less verbal sure.
If you want to encourage people to express their feelings etc verbally then...
They might just be counter-productive.

I have to agree here. I hate seeing them when I visit sites that have them. I find them distracting. They can actually be intimidating as well as annoying. They inflict a certain personality to the site instead of allowing the reader to interpret one of their own.

They make my head hurt.

The simple ones in Yahoo basic IM's aren't bad. But the ones that move around make me kind of dizzy and sick.

As I migraineur, I definitely vote no.

Please, no teddy bears juggling balls that spell out the poster's name. No fairies sprinking sparkly fairy dust that spells out the poster's name. No moving flower stems writing out the poster's name in cursive script. None of these things, I beg you!

though...

i have some sympathy for the following:

the one that rolls along the ground with a big fat grin
the one that bashes its head against the brick wall

and deneb found a cool one of this smily giving itself a hug

but aside from that not much sympathy for them.

i find they induce... nausea.

also... i find they take a whole lot longer to load the page

Yep, I still have dial up

I know. I'm working on hubby to get DSL. But right now I don't need anything that would make my pages load any slower.

And with ADHD, anything like that is quite distracting for me.

Still, happyflower, I do agree that they can be fun. I especially love the one where one smilie is poking at the other. Not sure I like what that might say about me, but still....And of course AllDone informed me that it was really about sex. Somehow I missed that part of it. ;)

If we had a vote, though, I'd have to say no.

Wait a minute!! I don't think that was me! My mind was *out* of the gutter that day. Or was it?? Hmm...maybe it was me. Oh, forget it. I don't remember.

Nice to see you gg!

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Laurie

P.S. Sorry hf, I'd have to vote no.

I hope these responses didn't make you feel bad for asking a simple question.

What happened here is, people have asked that question on admin before, and there are those (who've been here for a long time) who just can't stand the little b*ggers, and those who really like them.
It's become kind of a joke, so nothing is meant
to be insulting at all.

Hey, I am okay! LOL

Happyflower, I like the little doo-dads and stuff too.

I like to look at them

BUT,

I find that it makes it really hard to READ the posts. I skip over someone's post because it looks plain and they're new, or because they have some Avatar or tagline or something that is just not my taste.

Even if the person wants and deserves support, I have a hard time supporting a doo-dad that is a religious icon, or a sentimental blossom, or a cheesy cartoon character, or .... ANYTHING!

This is exactly why I have only bought 2 or 3 greeting cards in my entire life. They just aren't my style. I make my own, or send a note and a photograph.

-ll

But Happyflower, if a greeting card is the only way to support you, I'd send you one, my friend. I'd find the coolest one I could, even if it took me all over town and a whole afternoon.

Have you got an opinion on this? *g* (nm) » NikkiT2
