Is this whole site HTML/markup enabled? If so, how

Posted by Janelle on August 24, 2006, at 2:27:25

I've tried searching around the site but can't seem to find anywhere that indicates if it is HTML/mark-up enabled, meaning that a person could do bolding, underlining, italicizing and other things in their posts?

If this site is HTML/markup enabled, could someone please let me know how/where to find what kinds of things (for example bolding) are available on this site and how to do them on here? Thanks!

I could be wrong but I think the answer is no it isn't HTML enabled. Something to do with the possibility of malicious code (if I remember rightly 'cause I'm not too sure what that means).

Thats why people do *itallics* like that sometimes, and I guess CAPITALS KINDA WORK FOR BOLD THOUGH PEOPLE ARE LIKELY TO FEEL LIKE YOU ARE SHOUTING AT THEM.

:-)

Please bear with me, I'm re-acquainting myself with these boards (I posted on the Pyschobabble one that I was a regular here a few years ago, then family circumstances took me away for a long time, but now I can be here again sporadically and there have been so MANY wonderful changes and additions here that I need to learn and re-learn the ins and outs of posting!

Anyway, I hope this comes out with one of those >> estella notations because I intend it to be flagged for estella!

I'd like to say to estella, thanks for responding and I think U R right about the whole HTML/mark-up thing. It cannot be done here and I think the reason you mentioned is probably why! I just could not recall one way or another if years ago when I was on these boards regularly whether there was HTML stuff allowed or if there wasn't if from the time I had *left* to now when I'm able to be back, perhaps HTML stuff had been added and I just couldn't find where it was!

I'm trying to figure out (I used to know how!) how to flag a previous poster. I tried to flag estella, but I wound up flagging myself, lol!

So, I'm trying a different approach and want to see what happens.

Yeah, you got that (flagging) down.

I'm glad you asked about the HTML-enabled thing-- I've wondered that myself cause I like italics a lot-- but never knew the term.

Wish did have italics. The *xxx* thing doesn't really work well visually.

(Do you watch Big Brother, by the way--?)

It could have to do more with the script that runs this board, if Dr.B is still using a version of the original Perl script BBS that started Babble.

Perl does some nasty things when you try to embedded HTML in it improperly, and from those nasty things I can see how someone could get away with writing "malicious code" that looks simple enough in a textarea box but when Perl'd it gets nasty.

I don't think this is the right board to post this on, but I'm curious - why did you ask me if I watch "Big Brother"?! This thread may get a re-direct to another board -- if so, I hope there's a link or something to find the board it is sent to!

Sorry. Guess you don't. I don't either, really, but one of the more outstanding house-guests this year is named Janelle.
