In NO way can I give an official answer but I have learned that here in Babbleland, there's ALOT to the WORDING of opinions and thoughts in posts..... with ALMOST more emphasis on *how* it's said than *what* is said. I have seen some pretty offending opinions that when worded as "IMO" weren't addressed as being a blip to the rules. So, I think when one words a post in such a way that is stated as their opinion as opposed to a general "true-ism", it can make all the difference. There are exceptions, but that's what I've seen.
I term it wordsmithing and Babblespeak....

That's not the rule of "I" statements.
In general putting an IMO in front of the statement doesn't affect the civility of the statement at all.
If things got by with an IMO in front of it, it was either an oversight or there was another factor involved.

~~~ Maybe so, but I have complained in the past about "something" and the response I received was: "They stated it as their opinion, I'm letting it stand..." So, I have had that happen and I felt the statement I questioned was quite uncivil, however that was IMO, too. (smile)
Hmmm... If you happen to have a URL, I'd love to look at it. Perhaps there was something else involved.
I'm not sure if I do but I will look for it.
I want to be clear that I don't think the addition of: "In my opinion" is or should be a way to circumvent the civility rules and I don't think blatant infractions happens but some more subtle ones, but none the less stepping over the line, well.....
I think wording of opinions is important and I'm a big advocate for that, considering it a form of fair play on the boards.
It's nite-nite time for me.
Wishing you a good night.
