Do you have any idea how much a site like this would cost to run?
I'd estimate the hosting costs alone are a few hundred dollars a month..

No.. It was just a one off. It happens every year or so. Dr Bob would let us know if this place was likely to close down due to him being unable to keep up with the costs.
A friend of mine has a blog, which suddenly (as it was featured in a big newspaper) got *very* popular.. but, along with popularity came HUGE hosting bills, so he asked if all readers could donate just £2 each to keep the blog going.. He made enough to keep it running for 6 months.

Is babble in financial difficulty?
does the University of Chicago help you out at all with bandwidth and hosting?I hope you would let us know if Babble needs donations. It would be okay, you know, to do some fundraising. I like babble. babble saved my life once. I think it did, really. people keep telling me that my life is not worthless, therefore, neither is babble, therefore? do you need donating?

Dr. Bob told me that "[Babble] is a good cause."
I think Dr. Bob cares.Dr. Bob has this rule that you can't ask for money from other posters. I don't know if it applies to him as well.
I like that rule because with it people won't be pressured to give or feel bad about not being able to give. There's this other site that asks for donations for certain members. I don't feel comfortable with such an idea.
Dr. Bob doesn't advertise it, but Babble has a donations and support page.

No, I was just confused by what I think is a new billing system. It tells you how much you owe for the current month, but doesn't add what you owe from before!
