Dr. Bob, is there a lot of splitting going on?

Posted by Deneb on May 31, 2006, at 16:35:54

When you say "splitting", do you mean splitting you into all good or all bad?

You mentioned that it is one of the "cons". How much of a problem is it really? Do you find it affects you negatively?

How do you deal with it? Have you ever been threatened personally? Would you be afraid to meet someone who hates you? Do you get any support for this? Do you ever ask for the opinions of your colleagues on how to handle situations on Babble?

Okay, that's enough of rational Deneb....back to crazy Deneb. LOL

I love you Dr. Bob! Thanks so much for pulling strings and letting up into the APA convention! It was way cool to be walking around where the public are not allowed. I told my pdoc all about it. She thinks the trip was an important step forward for me. We talked about you, Dr. Bob. She knows I love you.

Do you mind when I write to you on the boards? I hope I'm not stalking you. Is it unwanted communication?

I want to see you again some day. I hope you will let me.

Dr. Bob, remember when I asked you what "splitting" was during your presentation? I'm going to admit that I already knew what splitting was. I just wanted to ask you a question. I wanted you to answer me, but you got that pdoc behind me to answer instead. Why didn't you answer the question yourself? Was it because you didn't want to interact with me?

I know what splitting is, but I still wanted to know how that applied to Babble. I should have asked that instead, but I'm not that bright and didn't ask that question.

I have a feeling you knew that about my question, didn't you? You knew I was asking it to interact with you more. That's why you got that other person to answer. You probably know a lot of stuff, but you would never say that you know them.

Or, I could be totally wrong. Maybe you didn't know how to explain what splitting is? Nah, I think you're bright, really bright, maybe you're just pretending to not know things. There is a certain advantage to feigning ignorance... ;-)

But really.....why?, why didn't you answer my question? Anyone have any theories? :-)

Do you mean like how we get really angry at Dr. Bob sometimes....or about general conflict on the boards? or in some other way....
sharing info here maybe and not so much with IRL people...like one's therapist?? I'm not sure what the term in this case refers to...
Do you know??

PS Congrats on the presentation (so much for shygirl ;-)

maybe to open up the discussion to the audience...to encourage interaction, maybe Dr. Bob doesn't want to be in the position of having all the answers-especially since he seems so ideal in your eyes, maybe to detract attention from himself, good speakers often involve the audience, draw them in in some way

I think when Dr. Bob talks about splitting he is mainly referring to how people get really angry with him sometimes and really like him other times. I dunno.

P.S. I'm still shy_girl. I was literally hiding behind chairs before the presentation. :-( I think people noticed.

I think that's a very good explanation! Much better than mine.

Now that I think about it, I think that is what happened. Dr. Bob was probably trying to involve the audience.

It was a defined aspect of the reason we were there. It was a workshop. It was supposed to be interactive.

I noticed you had black hair, too.

I'm sorry that you feel self-conscious about it, but *I* was pacing. That's how I got ready for the meeting. I went to the bathroom three times, in the last half hour.

I bet you didn't notice that, but *I* did.

Everybody has coping strategies.
