Toronto Babble presentation

Posted by pseudoname on April 28, 2006, at 12:50:18

Sorry to be clueless, but...

What's happened to Toronto? I haven't seen any discussion of it for a long time.

Who's going? Is it too late to join up? I know the American Psychiatric Association conference is May 20-25, 2006, but when is Dr Bob's presentation?

I assume it's okay to still come to the afterhours Babble birthday party if not to Bob's APA presentation. Is that true?

(Also, I'm pretty sure most people on Babble know nothing about it.)

The presentation is on that Monday morning. Most people are arriving on Friday or Saturday before and leaving Mon. night or Tuesday.

There is a thread at the top of this board (about the babblefest) and if you tell Dr. Bob you are going you can be added to the attendees email list. For security's sake we aren't posting all the details.

Hmm, should I make an announcement? Would it be too late for them to make plans?

Well, it might be too late for many people to make plans, but not everybody. And for those few, it might be a great opportunity.

I also think even if folks can't make plans, they'd feel better if they know about now rather than just find out about it afterward. (Hurt feelings can be easy to come by here…)

I don't know how you could make an effective announcement, though, without putting a new post in the index of each board. Or at least the "main" ones -- Babble, Psych, Social, Alternative… (I forget now how the traffic reports ranked them.)

I'm sure I'm not the only person who usually skips over the top of the page, where the introductory information is. If you put an announcement there, I think it would probably get overlooked for a while.

I suppose anybody could put a few posts around about it (as long as they didn't run afoul of the don't-post-in-multiple-places rule).

Thanks for considering this, Bob! :-)

OK, I've added:

Events in Toronto in May
I'd like to invite everyone here to a couple special events this month: Psycho-Babble's 8th birthday party, on May 20 and 21, and a workshop on online peer support groups at the American Psychiatric Association's annual meeting, on May 22. It would be great if you could make it!

How about that?

Bob

In a box & everything. Thanks. I think that's excellent. I think the caution I raised earlier in this thread still applies, though. I never take any notice of the stuff at the top of the page. Even my Babble bookmark ends in "…/babble/#post" so it opens straight to the bottom where the latest new threads are on the index. I would only notice the announcement if it were right above the "Start a new thread" area. But I might be unusual.

(ROTFL)

Thanks again for your tremendous work at Babble!
