who wants to run the boards?

Posted by alexandra_k on October 11, 2005, at 1:13:46

anybody...
anybody at all?

would anyone prefer it if there were a group of (consumer) moderators to run the boards compared to dr-bob running the boards with help from deputies?

how would we decide who gets to be in the moderator group?

election?

trouble is...

i guess the people who might want to say 'yes'...
probably don't look / post to admin...

Under that setup, I think I'd just leave.

Shrug.

I think if this wasn't dr-bob.org, that I wouldn't hang around either.
This speculation is making me very uneasy.

a non judgemental 3 party in control works best....
i would not stay if it was run by posting members..

Hmmmmm...

I think I will wait till Dr Bob actually says he is dissapearing completely before I even begin to ponder this one.

Dr Bob has been quiet for periods in the past.. I do't see anything differet now really.

I doubt he will leave us. Everyone has periods of burn out, especially when they're moderators of mental health boards (I know I am in the middle of a terrible MH burn out.. and I know I desperately need somethig that has no connection to MH in my life).. But I'm sure he will return

I've only just come back (not as often as I'd like) and already I feel I'm floundering self pity? sorry!) in a world of strangers. So much has changed. So much.

>>i would not stay if it was run by posting members..<<

I would not stay either. I once frequented another site run by posters and I felt like one piece of sea sand in an entire world of oceans.

I need to shut up now.

I guess I was just thinking of peoples response to this:

>Is any environment optimal? One way to look at it is that this site has selected for posters who are comfortable with, or at least willing to tolerate, me running it. Whereas a more democratic structure would require people who wanted to run it themselves.

[and so that is what got me to thinking about whether there are people here who would prefer to run it themselves]

>Again, if people would like to try, I'm still looking for volunteers.

[though i don't think the people who volounteered shortly after were thinking that they were volounteering to run the site themselves... i think they probably thought they were going to be helping dr-bob out a bit.]

miscommunication???

[just checking... just checking is all...]

I myself would NOT want to run any boards (not that I think anybody would want me to!) I like just coming here at my own leisure.

I can tell that running these boards is a huge, time-consuming task. The owner/manager would have to be very loyal and dedicated, with time each day for the boards and maintenance and question follow-up. I just don't have that in me!

But I'm sad that we might lose Dr. Bob. Obviously he may at some point want or need to move on to other endeavors, but I hope the Babble boards stay strong. I really like the people here, and I like interacting here.

How do OTHER boards work (Doc John or similar.) Do they have one moderator, or a group? I wonder if Dr. Bob would be able to solicit a fellow researcher to pick up the boards for a while?
