Ya, I'm waiting on something too.

Maybe it's cuz the fall school year just started here. I'd imagine there are a lot of new students to see.

I know. I noticed that too. I think maybe it is all my fault. It seemed like ever since I joined, he doesn't talk anymore.

Hmm. I really don't think it would be about one particular poster. Really. Really really really. He used to post more... Then the boards got bigger so he used to post less... But now it seems that he is posting even less...

Maybe its just a patch
(I guess peoples levels of involvement varies over time lol!)

But... maybe not.

We miss you Dr Bob.

I've noticed it too, to my deep regret.

My own guess is that a few months ago, Dr. Bob had a major life change that makes it difficult for him to spend the time here that he used to.

Or he's trying to extract himself. :(

Those blank slates drive me crazy. I always personalize it or imagine the worst.

Maybe we should take up a pool? Although how we'd determine the winner is beyond me.

I've found his decreased level of participation influences my participation as well.

Me too. But I don't understand why that is since his role was strictly administrative. Maybe we think the boards are less safe?

I have to wonder if one of the reasons Dr. Bob added new deputies is specifically so he could reduce his involvement or time spent here.

I think about how much time I spend reading select posts. I can't imagine how long it would take to read every single post.

I do miss seeing him around, though.

I think we need to give Dr. Bob some support. Dr. Bob has probably gone through hard times but felt he couldn't come here for support. I hope he is OK.

Let's give him a hug for all those times he couldn't come to us for help when he needed it.

Actually, my guess is a good life change. He hasn't sounded the way he does when he's overworked or stressed.

Maybe he's just outgrowing us. :(

What kind of life change do you think it is? If it's a good life change I'm going to guess new addition to the family. What about you? :-P

What does Dr. Bob say when he is stressed?

:-( indeed, but we should try to be happy for him (if there was a happy change that is)

yeah. a while ago he started up about 'making the boards more democratic', about delegating out some of the tasks he does to keep the boards going. i wondered about then whether it was an attempt to extract himself.

i guess thats why i got to thinking about whether his view of his role here has changed.

or maybe i'm just reading too much into it and he is busy or something...

but i don't know. i think it has been a while now.

personally (and this ain't really any of my business) but personally... i thought it was a bit of a tall order to get a couple new deputies and then bug off for a fairly long while so soon after getting them and and then leaving them to it... but i guess something may have come up...

or maybe...

he worries about how much his being here influences things...

how much admin conflict would there be without dr-bob around to address admin concerns?

how much admin conflict has there been lately?

how much admin conflict is facilitated by his willingness to adress admin issues but little else?

hmm.

but...

i liked it when there was some process stuff going on at admin.

i learned a lot.

and i liked it when he would post his thoughts on things... or links to stuff or whatever.

i don't know.

and sometimes thats the hardest.

because maybe...

he is moving on

:-(

and some stuff...
like the small board stuff...
was that just to see what we thought about the issue?
to see what we thought and why?
because once the idea was sort of sort of accepted
the issue was dropped.
he only seemed to want to talk about it when people didn't like it.
and he doesn't seem so very keen to actually implement them or anything like that.

who knows...

mid life crisis??

Is that what you think Alexandra?

I haven't been here as long as you. I've read some of the archives and he did initiate threads then. He doesn't anymore.

Maybe Dr. Bob is afraid of what he has created and doesn't know what to do anymore. Maybe he thinks it best to leave us alone?

Maybe my behaviour here has lead him to realize that ignoring people is the best way to deal with them?
:-( It's partly my fault. I started it. :-(

Is it my fault Dr. Bob?

Sorry Dr. Bob, you don't have to answer my question. I think the answer is probably no.

I think it might be a good idea for you to tell us if you are trying to 'extract' yourself from this place so that we do not worry too much about you.

If you're going to change roles here, can you change your role to become a participant? ;-)It's a lot less work being a participant! :-) Com'on, how 'bout it? ;-) Ask for more people to volunteer as deputies and join us! Have fun with us!

We will try to help you with your problems Dr. Bob and give you our support.

i'm just speculating (which i probably shouldn't).
i don't know...
and when i don't know...
is when i get to thinking / worrying...

> I haven't been here as long as you. I've read some of the archives and he did initiate threads then. He doesn't anymore.

yeah.

though to be fair...
thats not really something thats part of the 'i just moderate here' line.
maybe he's decided to be a bit stricter there...
(oh dear, i'm speculating again...)

he's probably just busy...

i think...
the boards would survive without him
(unless the server expires or something like that of course)
but...
we would have lost something :-(

i know he says 'i just moderate here...'
but his presence means a lot more than that
and i know that he doesn't have any obligation to us or anything like that...
but we miss him anyway :-(

and without him...
i think things would change rather.
some posters would post less...
and some other posters would post more...
it would be different

and sometimes...
i do hate change :-(

Dr. Bob, please don't leave us!

We care about you Dr. Bob.

If you don't want to moderate the boards, can you join us instead?

We wouldn't expect you to answer our questions or anything like that. You could just socialize a bit here whenever you feel like it.

Bob being more involved in the past is merely an illusion alex. If you consider the following example, he only rarely interacted with posters in the past. I think we are all being a little over sensitive about him not meeting our needs lately.

>Is any environment optimal? One way to look at it is that this site has selected for posters who are comfortable with, or at least willing to tolerate, me running it. Whereas a more democratic structure would require people who wanted to run it themselves. Again, if people would like to try, I'm still looking for volunteers. They can also contact current or past deputies rather than me if they'd prefer...

at this point in time you seem to have precisely one active volounteer.

and far from volounteers running things themselves 'more democratically' they are left having to try and read your mind to deliver determinations / make decisions on the basis of what you would do if you were here.

no fair dr-bob
no fair

still...
i suppose you have expressed interest in the idea for a while now...
about your role here
about whether the boards would be better off if you were to take a less active role

i didn't think you were going to do it though

there are other boards
if people don't post here because they don't like your running the boards
well... who cares? they can bug off to any other board and they won't have to put up with you anymore.

but i guess...
babble must take a lot of time
and other clinicians don't want to get involved

so there it is
