"When do deputy administrators have to intervene?
They never have to intervene. They can always defer to me."

Thus, not intervening, and/or posting on the thread do not necessarily equal condoning a behavior.

Phillipa should not receive a block.... » zenhussy

for posting that one time. This situation is to help people that are in desperate need right now and Dr.Bob along w/ the deputies are the ones to make that final decision. I see ur point re: the FAQ but this is the worst catasrophic nightmare in current if not the entire history of the US. I think it is admirable what both Lou and Phillipa have done and Phillipa is a wonderful person to everyone in this group. I just felt i needed to say that.

I was wondering the same thing. I thought that blocked posters were not supposed to use other posters or any other means to post. I also thought that we weren't supposed to use this board to communicate with blocked posters. Last year when someone was blocked for a long time, he tried to use his wife to post for him. Dr. Bob prevented that from continuing, but I don't know whether the block was extended when the wife tried to post.

It's a fair question, Dr. Bob.

In my experience there is a sensistivity by many people, especially those sanctioned in the past, to have rules that are clear, consistent and universally applied here. Determining the intent of the poster is difficult to ascertain, so it appears that Bob does not use this as a mitigationg factor in instituting his punishments. It strikes me as ironic that the individual in question also was concerned with rules and their consistent application. A determination is warranted for Zen's Request for Dr. Hsuing.

It's not Lou that would be sanctioned, Toph. It's Phillipa. And as I stated in my post below, she received a citizens "Please do not post for blocked posters", and a confirmation of the rules from me. IMHO, that's all Phillipa needs, unless she does it again. Which I very much doubt she will.

Thanks for clarifying that. That's how I viewed it, too. And of course Dr. Bob can always overrule.

> I was wondering the same thing. I thought that blocked posters were not supposed to use other posters or any other means to post.

This is true, and if Dr. Bob can ascertain that a blocked poster is posting under a new name, he usually extends the person's block and blocks the new name, too.

> I also thought that we weren't supposed to use this board to communicate with blocked posters.

This is not so. We are allowed to post messages to blocked posters, as in the recent threads saying hello and offering support to Lar, to Deneb, and to Lou. Blocked posters can still read the boards.

That being said, I do believe that the FAQ could be clarified.

The part that zen referred to:
"If someone's blocked, they can still read what others post, since what's posted is public. If they try to get around being blocked by posting as someone else or having someone else post for them, I block the other posting name, too, and extend the duration of the block...." is a bit unclear as to what name or names Dr. Bob blocks.

There are two issues referred to in this statement. One is a blocked poster coming back and posting under a new name while blocked. The second issue is what just happened: a current poster posts a message from a blocked poster. It's unclear to me from the FAQ just what happens in these two different scenarios based on the statement "I block the other posting name, too...." I view that as referring to the new posting name a blocked poster might use. It seems less clear to me that the current Babbler who posted a message from a blocked poster would get blocked, as they are not using a "new posting name."

I agree that it's muddy and could use sharpening up.

Hope I didn't step on your toes. You were doing fine.

In the past, people have gotten PBC'd for posting for blocked posters. I suppose if they continued to do it, they'd be blocked.

However, I think 10der's warning covered the situation. Phillipa has apologized, and the matter would appear to be closed to me, subject to Dr. Bob's review.

My message is no call for punishment, just an observation about a call for consistency in the inforcement of rules. From what I have read from Phillipa she is a postitve, caring member of this community. I'm sorry Lou put her in this position.

Toph:

Phillipa said in a previous post that Lou did not ask her to post for him.

I am just now catching up from being out of town so I am asking as a poster, not a deputy - could you be jumping to a conclusion with this statememt?

Thank you all for your support. No it won't happen again. There is a rule and I will abide by it. If I'd known and it was my fault I didn't I wouldn't have posted the Thread. Fondly, Phillipa
