How About A Board For Positive Med Effects?

Posted by Phillipa on August 26, 2005, at 21:29:02

Just wondering if any other of you get confused and discouraged by meds not working. Discussed this with fellow Babbler and we wondered if a Board for positive experiences with meds would appeal to others Fondly Phillipa

Hi Phillipa,

I've come across many people here on PB who have had positive experiences with medications. I imagine that the positive posts are not in the majority because people who do well on medications don't find a need to post on medication boards, except perhaps occasionally. I come here because I want the truth. I would much rather hear about real experiences (both good and bad) from real people rather than the lies told by pharmaceutical company advertisements or the whitewashed version presented by most pdocs.

I would like very much to see a board about positive med effects. I have had a series of complications and quite serious side effects from the meds I've taken. I wasn't expecting them, and in fact felt very hopeful when I initially started on them, so they were a shock to me, and probably gave me an unduly pessimistic view of psych meds in general. What I really don't know is how many people do have positive experiences- and whether these are at the recommended doses, or at considerably lower than the recommended doses.

Having a board just for that might encourage more people to post about good eperiences. That said, I'm aware that one of the big motivators in searching for, and finding, psychobabble. is difficulties with medications. That's how I got here.

So far, I haven't found a good med for me, but I've learned many other valuable things!

Well, yes.. but psychobabble is about 100 to 1 negative vs. positive, in terms of medication information. That's why a new board was suggested.

Sorry, what I meant was, I'd rather it be more balanced there than to have separate polarized negative and positive boards?

But how do you do that? Top of the Board for positive effects, bottom for negative effects? Fondly, Phillipa
