Well, now it reads...

" It focuses on parenting and on child and adolescent mental health. It didn't take off before, but let's give it another try..."

At first glance, I would say that the second sentence doesn't really give off a welcoming glow. Or confidence that the board could be a worthwhile resource.

I guess the first sentence focuses on the original purpose of the failed board. Which, if I'm not mistaken, was geared toward the medical implications of mental health that applied to pediatric psychology?

While that can certainly be part of what this board could do, there are other things it could be.

It could be a place to find support for the challenges of parenting. (Because as any parent knows even the most emotionally healthy child can be a challenge to a parent's mental health. grin.) Or to share the joys of parenting. To discuss concerns about children, or frustrations about parenting. Or child development, and the stages our kids might be going through.

In other words, to be a more general parenting peer support and education resource.

I suspect that parents are a little reluctant to discuss the mental health concerns of their kids. I know I am, because what's mine is mine, and I don't mind revealing it for all of creation. But what's his is his, and I try to be very careful of how I violate his privacy.

So the board may do better if the scope was broadened.

I like it!

I am going through the trials and tribulations of Toddlerhood and it would be very nice to have a place to vent indiscriminately...

I agree too. I guess I was out of the loop. I always thought that general parenting stuff was the reason for the board. Oops.

I've been using it that way. And Dr. Bob's been redirecting it that way. But the welcoming paragraph at the top of the page hasn't caught up. I just wanted him to enlarge it a bit.

Thanks, I've updated it. Hopefully for the better... :-)

Bob

It's nice, Dr. Bob. Thank you. (nm)
