Why does dr-bob use such a simple web site ?
Why not make it cooler / flashier ?

I find it really soothing for my eyes compared to other more modern deisgns. I thinks he's doing exactly what he wants to do!

Flashy is for advertisement, for appealing, provoking, peddling.

Flashing and movement would cause me to not beeing able to come to this site and participate.

I can go to my closet for cool and flashy, here I am thankful for visual serenity.

It's hard enough for me to concentrate. I like it just as it is. Fondly, Phillipa

Yep I agree Philipa - this site is simple, straight forward and best of all, it works! Also, if it were made more flashy, then some people might have technical difficulties. And besides which, Dr Bob (or someone else) would have to pay for all the server space/development costs etc etc.

I like it too - ESPECIALLY the lack of adverts!

I've got an old computer, with a dial-up connection -- just for practical reasons I'm *very* glad this site is so simple.

Besides -- form should follow function, which is probably very Bauhaus of me, and this site is about information. The design of the site as it is makes it very functional and easy to navigate. That's what it's all about here.

In my opinion only:

It appears as a plain site, but I also find it to be rather "confusing", especially the manner in which the messages are nested. I had to search a lot, "like a lab rat in a maze" when I first arrived here. It's not the easiest site to deal with... again, in my opinion ONLY.

Also, be very careful about saying ANYTHING negative or critical or you could end up being banned. For some reason people get banned a lot on this site.

Secondly, expect to have this post redirected to "Administration" and away from the "Medications" thread. You have to be very, very careful of posting on the correct thread.

I love the fact its so nice and simple here.. When I check through all the websites I use regularly, then they're all quite "old skool" in their design.

A flashy design does NOT make a good website. And Flash itself is a nasty nasty creation in my books.. What makes a good website is easily navigatable links, and the ability to find the information you are looking for.

Also, remember that some of us sneak in from work, where nice, neutral colours won't be noticed too much.. A big pink flashing neon sign would give us away in 2 minutes!

And don't worry, I have never known ANYONE to be banned from here for critisising the site, or Dr Bob, as long as they weren't rude about it and thus broke civility rules.

I like simple, too. I find flashiness to be too distracting.

For that reason I use google instead of any other search.

And I use gmail instead of any other email.

I like simple. And the *worse* thing to me is something blinky. An aside: did you know blinkiness can induce a seizure in someone with epilepsy?

Yup, I have read that.

And in some of us without epilepsy, ads, flashiness and *blinkies* just induce a healthy outburst of cursing... ;-)

LOL! Yeah, me too.

I like this site the way it is. It's easy to use with no annoying features. I don't think I'd enjoy a flashier version.
