In reply to WHAT A COWARDLY ACT!! RE:DINAHS EMAILS, posted by wildcard on August 7, 2005, at 20:04:09
I appreciate the support, but please be careful. I'd hate to see anyone get PBC'd or blocked because of what I posted.
The civility rules still apply in all situations.
It isn't all that upsetting, really. And I don't really read them closely, just forward them to Dr. Bob.
But I did want to make sure that people who wanted to reach me babblemail me rather than email me. Because I might not reply if I am not sure, you know?

hi Dinah,
I'm sorry you're getting harrassing emails. In case any seemed to come from "me" -- I have never sent anything rude to you! :) Hopefully the unkind sender will stop doing that soon. Do you feel unsafe? Is there something we should/could do to help make it stop? Is anyone here a computer whiz who could help Dinah with this?JenStar

Do you want each of us to send you our private e-mail?
I'm almost certain there are ways to track down the perpetrator very easily. If Dr. Bob is unable to help with the data he has, perhaps you and/or Dr. Bob can contact the ISP of the person who is sending you the e-mails?

If it were real life, I might feel more than a bit unsafe, but since it's cyberspace I don't really. At this point I'm just forwarding them to Dr. Bob and leaving it up to him as to what to do with them.
So far he hasn't even acknowledged receipt of them. :)

Many.
But perhaps I should email them to you. And I did email one or two already.
At the very least, if the blocks are added for each email violating the please be civil to deputies in emails rule, the block should be well over the maximum limit by now.

Maybe a block for each new name? Since after one the deputy could just stop reading them?

Well, if you change that to after the first time, the deputy can block the email address, I agree. I count four identities after the first.
However, I have no wish to be vindictive. I haven't received any new emails since posting. It wouldn't bother me if you put those four on hold, and just extended the block if I (or anyone for that matter) get any more.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by "put on hold"...

Well, by my count there were four additional identities, leading to four additional blocks. But my main goal is to have the emails stop. If they do stop, and neither I nor anyone else get any, I am proposing that you not put on those four additional blocks. But if anyone does get any, you can add those four plus any additional block time would be due.
But if you'd rather add the four now, that's up to you.

A year or so ago, when a problem occurred on PB, someone suggested that Babblers should not be allowed to register through Hotmail or other anonymous, un-traceable methods. I'm uncertain whether that would be applicable in this instance.

Tho I'm not sure that one was uncivil, particularly. It was impersonating another Babbler, explicitly. Unless of course, it wasn't.

Sorry, I got behind.
It's unfortunate, but posting (or linking to) an email address can lead to harassment. With the information in email "headers", it may be possible to notify the sender's Internet service provider.
Maybe it's safer just to stick to babblemail?

Well, my dear Dr. Bob. I certainly agree for other posters, and it's fine with me if you want to have people Babblemail me as deputy. But as it stands now, my email address is prominently displayed in the FAQ. And I don't mind having it that way, since it allows blocked posters to contact me with concerns, civilly of course.
But I definitely think it's a good idea for people to use Babblemail to exchange links and email addresses rather than post them on a forever archived and googleable board. :)

Well, I wouldn't want to publicly jump to conclusions or anything, but the content certainly sounded familiar.
