Geeze

Posted by AdaGrace on December 28, 2004, at 6:42:56

I turn my back for self loathing and absorption before I step over the cliff and look what happens. Susan get's blocked AGAIN, and Atticus is sparring with Bobby. I miss out on everything.

Maybe Dr. B should install a TIVO-type feature, so people could replay these mini-dramas as they unfolded. Sorry you missed the sturm-und-drang. Anyway, Parson Bobby started it. Honest. ;) Angelic Atticus 0:-)

Yeah, crushed, she got blocked for 2 weeks over on social 2 days ago. I'll try to give you the link to the thread. In case link doesn't work, she didn't use the (*) or (@), and so got herself in trouble using slang in describing her desire for a certain part of the male anatomy, I'm afraid :( Dang it, I miss her every time she's gone...

why Susan doesn't seem to want to babble with us anymore...

I mean, she knows the rules and she knows the consequences of breaking the rules ie a blocking.

If she doesn't want to babble with us it would be a lot more honest for her to just say so or stay away instead of making Dr B 'responsible' for her absence.

Just MHO (and thats honest, not humble).

I agree with you if the A word got her busted she had to know that what she said in the new thread wasn't going to just be ignored

I may seem like a Susan apologist. I am trying to get to know her and it is difficult when she's banished frequently. It bothers me that people make assumptions about her motives when she is not here rather than asking her to explain when she returns. It may be that she wants to be banned or is defiant or hostile to Bob or whatever. Let's try and remember to ask her if she has an explanation if she comes back.

I agree. We shouldn't assume Susan did that on purpose. Let's wait till she gets back and let her explain it. I could see it being a mistake.

it is not unprecedented. If you follow this thread, for example

http://dr-bob.org/babble/relate/20041207/msgs/428671.html

But I agree, who on earth knows why and maybe d*ck really was a mistake. I do consider that it was more the content of her post rather than that particular word that was so objectionable. Just my opinion, though. Have posted something to that effect in that thread.

No doubt there's a pattern. And I'm sure you are well intentioned. I've never asked her why either.

Being banned by Bob isn't usually a deliberate thing. I think Susan was expressing herself and got caught up in Dr. Bob's net.

I'm not saying Dr. Bob's net is somehow malicious, afterall, all of those blocked swim away.

I don't know whether I'm a prude, but it bothers me when people talk about others in gender-specific ways.

I guess most of this gets through under the guise of romance.

No she didn't. From memory she got blocked from another board on the same day, though, for using the same word unstarred. Had a hunt but can't find it... I thought it may have been on social...

By the way...

This isn't personal - I like Susan plenty. I just think that instead of being quick to describe the situation as Dr B 'banishing' someone, maybe we should consider WHY they have been blocked and appreciate that blockings are a response to the posters volountary actions.

I think Toph was just saying we shouldn't surmise what Susan's motivations were, *especially* since she can't be here to fill us in. Imagine how frustrating it would be if you were blocked and we were having a conversation about your internal motivations, whether we were right or wrong, wouldn't you want to be able to explain yourself?

That is fair enough and I take the point. I wasn't intending to judge or accuse her, and I wasn't intending to disrupt her relationship with the posters here. I didn't express myself as clearly as I could have, and so I apologise for that. I think I have already said more than I should have. It was just the point about posters taking responsibility for their posts. I guess what I was trying to do was to show her that she has a part to play in this too. And that her actions affect the people who care about her and want to babble with her.

That's correct, crushedout, but I should own up to being a little critical of alexandra, and I'm sorry for that. She has been supportive of Susan and it does appear that there is something behind this than simple careless speech. Besides if I say something dumb or insensitive (which unfortunately is often) I hope others will let me know about it, as hard as that is to hear.
