Lou's request to Dr. Hsiung

Posted by Lou Pilder on October 22, 2004, at 16:04:17

Dr. Hsiung,
I am requesting that you make a determination as to the following being acceptable or not in relation to the guidlines of the forum.
[...the FLAMER's latest {drivel}...]
and,
[...I'm not sure which of those two are a bigger pain in the {expletive}!LOL...]

Since you have now addressed me indirectly, it is my understanding of the rules that I can address you directly. Lou, I am still kind of new here and I am struggling to figure out who is genuine and who is fake. Who is a therapist or a recovering psychiatric patient and who is some hopeless voyeur getting his jollies screwing with peoples minds on the psych ward. I still have my doubts about you, Lou. One moment you appear (in case I forget in the future, Bob, please insert 'seem' or 'appear' in front of my descriptions of Lou)really like one of us, vulnerable, an Ohio State fan (I think), someone who enjoys the support of others and gets pissed when someone disses you. You even seemed to be getting better about the 3 post deal. Then when you (appear) to intentionally injure Nikki under the guise of the civility police - that seems so psychopathic to me that I can't believe you are real. I don't want to make enemies here, but I want to believe that you are one of us. I even tried to get to know you through Babblemail and I only got the sense that you wanted me to agree with everything you said. Anyway, and I mean this, if I'm wrong or being paranoid about your authenticity, then I am terribly sorry.

Lou.

Several months ago, you petitioned the board that you might be made a deputy. You were discouraged by several posters to pursue this, and you decided to withdraw your name from consideration. You are probably alienating a great many people from you by now acting as one. It is not your job. You might want to limit your requests for determination to those posts that involve you directly and leave to Dr. Hsiung the job of moderating these forums.

Please give this careful consideration.

First, there's nothing in the rules about being "addressed indirectly":

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#harassed

> when you (appear) to intentionally injure Nikki under the guise of the civility police - that seems so psychopathic to me that I can't believe you are real.

Please don't post anything that could, even with a word like "appear" inserted, lead others to feel accused or put down. I've asked you to be civil before, so now I'm going to block you from posting for a week.

If you or others have questions about this or about posting policies in general, or are interested in alternative ways of expressing yourself, please see the FAQ:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil

Follow-ups regarding these issues, as well as replies to the above post, should of course themselves be civil.

Thanks,

Bob

Do I understand this correctly??

We can be accused and paraphrased in a post by someone, but we can't defend ourselves?

Am I misunderstanding??

See:

"Posting to someone means directing either the subject line or the body of a post to them. Replying to posts by someone isn't necessarily posting to them."

SLS,
You wrote,[...you are...alienating...people acting as (a deputy)...].
It is not my intention to alienate people.
You wrote,[...(a deputy) is not your job...].
I am not being a deputy. I am requesting that Dr. Hsiung make a determination as to the acceptability of a post in relation to the guidlines of the forum. This is in the FAQ for all those that want Dr. Hsiung to see a post. It is Dr. Hsiung that has posted that he approves of this and the FAQ writes such.
You wrote,[...limit your requests... to... posts that involve you directly...].
The posts that I have requested for determination either involve me or {have the potential} to involve me in the future, for there could be implications to {all} of the posters in some of my requests for a determination.
You wrote, [...leave to Dr. Hsiung the job of moderating these forums...].
I think that I am doing that, for he writes in his FAQ to post on the administration board a post that you want me to see and I agree that it is his function, not mine, to make these determinations and that is why I post them to Dr. Hsiung instead of posting to the poster
Please do not post to me.
Lou

I thought Scott put it well above:

Lou makes some good points. I just hope he changes his mind about my not posting to him.
