Pop-ups..

Posted by Karen_kay on March 10, 2004, at 7:45:48

Is anyone else getting pop-up adds when they confirm a post? Or is my computer just junk. Of course my computer's junk, but the pop-ups? Anyone, other than me? Just wondering if I have something to be worried about or not... (Well, it's not a pop-up really either. It's an ad at the top of the page and when I scroll down, the post is available. I can draw a picture if I must...)

Darling Karen
It would be extremely helpful if you could draw a picture and email it to Mr H ( he's tied up at the moment )otherwise others may think it's the pixies from Hallunication Road : )
I will buy you a new computer.

Ah slinky.. Nice to hear from. But, you're the one who's good at drawing the pictures around here, not I. And do you promise to buy me a new computer? If so, I promise I'll marry you... Now, let us keep it admin here, so I'll try to draw a pic... (Side note.. You said Bob's tied up? How's that possible, as I sent him off to work over an hour late, and that was 45 minutes ago... Is it possible he has a twin? Or perhaps I'm psychotic? Hmm.. I prefer to think he has a twin.)

Now for the picture...

Confirm your post on Babble, etc etc etc...

Wow, I didn't think I had that in me.. But, that's what it looks like.. Sorta... Not really, but you get the idea.. Anyone else having these problems? It's just an ad right above my confirmed post... And it's not for porn, so don't suggest I've been shopping where I shouldn't... )(Grr.... forget the picture.. it didn't work.. Slinky, where's the new computer? and someone else to use it please???

Sounds to me like you have some spy ware on your computer.. that often causes pop ups when theres not meant to be any pop ups!

The best course of action is to down load Ad Aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/), make sure you click for updates and thenr un it. When you get the list fo problems, check the tick box next to each one, then click continue to remove the problems.

Any problems just let me know

Spy Ware tends to infect your PC from pop ups.. I run Ad Aware once a week.. But since installing a pop up blocker, I get very little to be cleared.

I use the Google Toolbar.. http://toolbar.google.com/ and love the pop up's blocked counter.. I'm up to 1745!! *g*

Another *great* free and reputable program to download is Spywareblaster. Unlike how its name sounds, it actually just prevents most spyware from ever depositing by blocking Active X controls from downloading without you knowing it. Which is very common as you web surf, even independent of pop-ups. Previous to adding this to my computer -- on which I desperately need to save space -- I have used both Ad Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy. I thought them to be lifesavers until I added Spywareblaster and began seeing that nothing was ever found by Ad Aware or Spybot anymore, except routine cookies one can clear through routine means (deleting temps and cookies from Control Panel > Internet Options).

So I took the spyware detecting programs off my computer and now instead I just occasionally go to a site called Pestscan, where you can run a free detection utility. It doesn't remove, but you can at least check if Spywareblaster is enough for you, as it still proves to be for me after over a year. And I am a prolific web surfer! ;- )
