Age specific groups? Any interest?

Posted by Racer on February 27, 2004, at 22:46:20

I notice that there are a lot of posters in different age groups clustered together in threads. I wonder if there's enough interest to create some age-specific boards here? (I know, and overwhelm Dr Bob still more, but I'm saying it anyway...)

I know that I've felt quite a bit more comfortable in certain threads consisting primarily of those writers within my age group, probably because we have a basis of common experience. Even if it's only that we all remember the same "How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?" ad campaign. I've noticed that certain groups of the same posters seem to cluster together, giving each other more support than the group as a whole provides, and wonder if this might be a good option to offer them more stability within the boards? Sort of like the 2000 board, but based on commonality of chronological age, rather than length of "service"?

Pondering, pondering -- when I worked in a big law firm, my favorite attorney was the one who would actually write (cross my heart and hope to die) "Pondering" on his time sheets. Went to the clients that way, too. "15 minutes -- Pondering -- $75" Gotta love those little nuggets of wonder, huh?

I'd be open to that. If others were interested...

But would people shift boards as they got older? Or would the boards just get older with them?

Wait, I didn't know you were going to charge me for the suggestion! :-)

I think maybe there could be some boards with more permeable memberships, like the boards getting older with the posters. Maybe a "If you were born between 1946 and 1964, here's an age specific board for you," or "If you were born between 1965 and 1975, here's another board for you." Make sense? Grouping it by Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, etc.

You know what's mine is yours, Bob! And I'd really like you to come get that laundry... (<<joke) That attorney was so funny. You'd have liked him, and my boss cut him a lot of slack because of things like the Pondering notes. I love those signs of individuality adapting successfully to the world, don't you?
