For me, I find people play games there. So I avoid.

But how on earth, from the UK, could I prove to Dr Bob, via email, that I am who I say I am??

My anonimity isn't an issue for me. The email address I signed up with is myownname@yahoo.com, but who here could possibly know if that is my real name?? I've used my real name here from day one, but only I know that its truly my real name for sure.

I could come up with lots of ideas that would work for US only... But can't think of any that would work world wide.

Nikki

But I also think the administrative time involved would sink the whole idea anyway.

More so than on Admin? :) I guess that's why I was surprised. Most people who feel they need to avoid a board avoid Admin.

I'm guessing there are people who like to play games wherever they find themselves. And people who rarely play games. Wouldn't be more effective to decide who you want to interact with, rather than where you want to interact?

People avoid admin for other reasons, I think.

For me, I find social an accident happening all the time. So I avoid.

I enjoy reading both of your posts when you do pop in. Social's not for everyone. IMO it's bound to be the messiest board, since there's no unifying topic for us to stick to. You get the most unadulterated, er, people-ness there.

Tabitha, I must be the densest person alive. I've always thought Social was fairly innocuous. I tend to find more hurly burly on the Meds board. People do get excited about their medications.

If you ever have the time/inclination, could you email me and try to explain in monosyllabic words I might understand?

The only thing I mind about Social is the turnover. I miss so many people, and the silliness we used to have with word games and fruit fun. I tend to be so earnest myself that I think of those as the good old days. But I also enjoy each new group of Babblers and enjoy getting to know people. I find it endlessly fascinating.

I guess I don't think of it as messy. I think of it more as what's not to like?

Totally. My comments are not ment as a crit.
With no topic at hand and given that the people
there are mentally ill it tends to be very dynamic.

If I want to chat, 2000 is a safe, trusted place for me. All my friends know about my illness
so I prefer real life support.

hi Nikki, I never for a minute meant those with free email adds wouldnt be allowed to join. I was thinking of ways of stopping people opening accounts simply to make trouble. I thought that if people with those accounts had to wait a day or so & get approval from DrBob it would stop the impulse joiners who blow in & straight out again after causing havoc. Im just trying to think of how to make it better so people like you & the other long time people who, to me, are the 'spine' of the social board dont leave in exasperation.

<<That is so true! I don't like the idea of exclusivity either, but I do think that there has to be a minimal level of ethical behavior imposed on the boards. I just personally find myself struggling with certain behavior that actually does emotional damage to me, here. And I guess I think it hurts others sometimes too. I don't know how to reconcile the fact these are supportive boards with the fact that there is certain inflamatory behavior here that I think hurts others. (And yes, I know this means I should stay away, and I have been staying away a bit. But I miss the supportive aspect of the boards).

But I also know that we are all imperfect here and seeking help, support, education, and personal growth. This board has brought out both the best in me and the worst in me. I'm sure others are annoyed by both sides of me, and yet *I* don't want to be banned for life. So who's to say *who* can partipate here or not? Dr. Bob....

And has he addressed P's posting of Kirsten's suicide at all? Is he looking into it? Is he seeing if it's from the same ISP address as KrissyP/Gal, or whatever? I do think Dr. Bob should have some comment on this situation...

Personally, *that* would make me feel a bit better about the situation....

Susan

And us all, Susan. Dr. Bob is tied up at the moment, and hasn't had the chance to look into it. I'm sure that once he can, he will. I know I'm looking forward to him being able to get back to the boards. :)

In the meantime, there's really nothing else anyone else can do, unfortunately.

well whatever. Im just trying to think of how we can stop abusive posts here & next thing I am accused of promoting some private, elitist club. That is not what Im saying at all. I give up. This place is already unfriendly & elitist without any input from me.

Dinah,
Because things have become so twisted there. I don't know who's who, I don't feel the same sense of community that I did years ago when people were 'real,' and I don't trust what seems to be the very large increase in trollers, and/or people who just use different names.

This has become a much more anonymous board to me, which I don't have that much interest in. (Sorry about that dangling preposition, there.) I never know with whom I am speaking.

At least at PB 2000 I know who people are, and I post at admin because that's a part of the board I'm concerned about. (dang! another dangling preposition!)

Thanks for asking, as I miss you.

Shar

Ah, now there's a reason I understand. I too find name changes disconcerting. I hope Dr. Bob's new rule will help that some. I know people don't have to tell you who they were, but at least you'll know you knew them before.

Oh well, I guess our paths will have to cross on Admin. I don't qualify for 2000, and you don't seem to frequent Psychological (my personal favorite board).

I'm glad you miss me, too. But I'll bet you don't miss my voluminous dangling prepositions. :D

Well, I remember the days of high school and cliques. It wasn't a pleasant feeling. I'm sorry you are having that feeling now.

i can see that you are very sensative and i am sorry that you thought i was "accusing"..
my intention was to "share" my viewpoint..
i am not unfriendly or do i concider myself apart of an elitest group..
