um, whoever's trying to make Kristen/Gal look bad, that's really pathetic.

Parents of suicides don't usually concern themselves first and foremost with posting on internet sites. Yes, unfortunately, I've known a few. I know of one legitimate "announcement" of this sort, on another site/mail list I was on, and it came a week or so after the funeral, from the regular poster's girlfriend, who was very nice, not alarmist at all, and had appreciated the support that the site had offered her SO.

this is distressing. I also believe it's a hoax, and we may never know who did it. Given that, I hate to see folks getting upset over it. It seems like things in babble-land will never calm down again.

Part of me still reacts like it's real-- a shocking suicide report, which brings back unpleasant real-life memories. I can't help that response-- it may just be permanent trauma imprint or something. But after that I just have to ask myself-- do I want to get upset over a prank? I don't. That diffuses it for me. I hope that others can also find ways to limit their reaction to this provocation. killed himself last week. The parents had a small, private funeral. Seemed they had a lot of shame. Which is a pity.

I'm pretty upset over this guy's death. He was a good guy, but unfortunately invested a lot of energy in a social circle that was toxic for him. They made fun of his creative efforts, of his "wasted" studies, they gossiped about him and called him a hopeless case. Those who admired him weren't strong or brave enough to stand up and say so.

Today is the birthday of a minor local commedian, whose nephew happened to have been a classmate of the guy who just died. The radio is full of happy-birthday announcements, and every one reminds me of the nephew, who once found the now-dead classmate lying on a street. He didn't really call out for help. He just suffered, tried to make things work, tried to pull himself up by his bootstraps, tried to keep up a good front.

Hey, Bob. I hope you're noting the effect of "crying wolf". It's not a trivial abuse of peoples' humanity, and exceeds by orders of magnitude any concept of incivility I've yet seen here.

If the original post is true, my sympathies go to the family and friends. If false, the poster should be blocked for life.

I tend to agree with Liligoth. The spelling and style are not like Kristen's.

I'm really in a quandary. I'm not at all sure that my deputorial powers extend to deleting this post, so I have emailed Dr. Bob and ask that everyone be extra careful to be civil even under provocation until he arrives and determines what's going on. He is in a better position to determine that than I am.

And I'll ask for some direction, should this happen again.

A somewhat frustrated,

Dinah, acting as deputy for Dr. Bob

Dinah, deleting it would be the wrong thing to do, IMHO. It's part of our reality, and I'd rather face reality itself than remodel it to suit some arbitrary notion of how things ought to be.

Sincerely,
Lar

Sigh. Well, that's why I didn't delete it. Because my understanding is that my limited authority covering deletions extends to deleting posts by blocked posters, and deleting personal information that wasn't meant to be made public (like accidentally signing your real name to a post).

I'm just frustrated....

I side with Larry on this. Unless it's a blocked poster, I think it should stay up, per the normal procedure. IMO it creates more division when provocative posts are deleted-- since people who didn't see them may not understand the reactions of people who did.

This Kristen/Krissy P person....am I right with the below...

1. This is KrissyP who first faked a suicide- her father 'wrote to PB'?

2. This Kristen is Gallkepion, who recently wrote a note on Psycho babble Admin saying "Goodbye- Consider me Dead"- but she later returned (within a week or two)?

3. This now is the same Kristen/KrissyP who has apperantly, through word of her mother, commited suicide just now?

Am I right with these facts? When the veracity of this post is determined I will have some preety strong opinions.

Ace.

Ace, it seems to me that someone would like us to make all of these assumptions & believe Kristen/Gal is doing this again. I for one dont believe it & would like to hear from Kristen to make sure she is ok.
No-one knows any more than you about it. It is a very upsetting post. There are many of us here who have issues with suicide including me.

I don't think that Kristin or her mother wrote this. It doesn't follow her usual letter format. I wonder if Dr. Bob can trace it back to the IP number...??? Whoever wrote it, if it is in fact fake (which I believe it is) should be blocked permanently. This is getting ridiculous and is upsetting everyone.

I have been reading this board for 2 years now, off and on and finally decided to get involved. This past Monday there were 2 suicides close to home. Unfortunately, some people might fake a suicide to get a reaction out of others. I do not know if this is the case or not, but suicide is a serious thing and my personal feelings on someone faking a suicide is that they should perhaps, be blocked. In essence, this board appears to me to give help and support in a controlled forum to those who seek it.

Why has Kristen not posted anywhere since this was posted.

It may be a coincedence.

But it may not also.

Burn, baby, burn » P

This is what it's like to be a member of a forum for people with mood disorders and how vulnerable we make ourselves.

We get burned.

It may not have been Kristen's mom, probably not, imo. Or maybe it was. We don't know. We just all experience our own reactions to the news. If it's not true, we get burned.

Waxing poetic for a moment, I understand how someone might want and need attention to post such a message anonymously. It stirs things up, it creates waves and ripples. And the thing is, it doesn't matter to the creator whether those waves and ripples hurt. What matters is the attention the creator gets.

I had high hopes for gal/Kristen. Maybe she did this maybe not, maybe she is no longer with us. It is P who wants, needs, craves, longs for attentions--in any form--which is almost as sad as losing one of our own.

P puts me in mind of the kid who kicks down the sand castle. Or pushes around the geeks in school. The point is not to make friends, but to get attention--any kind of attention--and the psyche that needs that is very sad indeed.

Thats a really good point. I thought about that before I posted but at the time didn't think she would fake suicide again. I SHOULD make a note however, that it still might not be her. BUT, if it isn't then the next question is, why isn't she speaking up and denying this? She is pretty regular on these boards, posting almost daily. So why the break now? Does anyone know what Krissy has? Is she Borderline. I am, and I know that it is typical Borderline behavior to repeatedly threaten and attempt suicide (parasuicide).
