That's good, but just because it didn't offend you doesn't mean it won't offend others.

Dr. Bob:

I know you have to draw the line 'somewhere'...and I do admit that the information on culture-stereotyping was good and important. But, my post made fun of people who use 'exercise machines'...and what about Californians? I know...you have to keep it in perspective.

I just thought maybe something different than a 'PBC' should be directed at us in these cases. That's a pretty heavy thing to toss at Larry, who was doing in, I believe, as innocent fashioned as the rest of us where, trying to lift our spirits. Maybe there should be something less harsh posted in these cases. Maybe like a "please be careful" or something like that? This is not just in this case, but ones that come up once in awhile where-by people are maybe much more incognizant in their intent.

Kinda like getting a parking ticket compared to being charged with some nasty criminal offense. I think that sounds fair, no?

Thanks for listening,
Jay

Unfortunately Larry got a 'PBC', who was doing in, I believe, too, as innocent fashioned as the rest of us were, trying to lift spirits here. We all know Lar is a great human being and know he would never intentionally offend anyone here~that is definately NOT his style:-)
My 'post' Re: California Driving, if I was 'making fun' of anyone else, which was in no way my intent, then I, too, actually was making fun of myself, (and that's honestly why I posted what I did), because I AM a Californian, and I found it funny, just like we who posted, found are own funny and wanted to share~that's why we posted it;-)
I could see other Californians *feeling* it wasn't funny and I respect that.

**I apologize if I offended any fellow Californians**

I like the state, born and raised, after all, where else in the country is it over 90 degrees in late October? hehehe

Jokes are jokes, some offensive, some not.
***If we can all take 1 POSITIVE from the one's posted recently (even if Bob feels a PBC is warranted) IMHO, it made a few people laugh, and that's something we ALL need:-)
man I gotta go to sleep, it's 3:30AM here!

****I TOTALLY understand it being quite a very fine line for Bob however...

<<I know it might offend others, I just was expressing my *opinion* that I didn't find it offensive.

But perhaps, in these types of borderline (to me)cases of infringement on civility, could it just be left to a particular poster to say s/he was offended by any particular remarks?

Just a thought...

Susan

Hi Susan,

I think Dr Bob pulled up on this one, as someone was very offended by the redneck joke in the past.. there was a huge hoo har about it then, so there was a reason for his actions this time.

Dr Bob left a link to the previous thread in a post to Larry on PSB

Thanks, Nikki,

I looked through that thread and couldn't really find where someone was offended, but that doesn't mean anything. I really get lost in threads that are before my time.

But your explanation makes things clearer for me.

Thanks!

Susan

OK, got it.

But (1) posters may feel offended but not be comfortable saying so and (2) there are lurkers who don't even post, too...

Bob
