I am just a bit flabbergasted at recent postings on the psychobabble board, and of the banning of people due to these postings....
I am referring to all the broohaha over postings made by "Jason911". I have read all of the postings regarding his researching of meds. I have read ALL the replies that this young man received in reply to these posts that he made. My last read on the post was of you banning this young man, for clearly defending himself over VERY derogitory comments that were made directly to him over this thread! This young man was called NUMEROUS nasty names, made fun of, and told he was full of (pardon me saying it here) s_ _ t. He responded to the last nasty posting that was directed to him in a manner that I (although I am a nobody, I know...) thought was pretty darn appropriate. He didn't say anything that wasn't true (if you have read 'all' the posts regarding this matter you might see that what this young man stated was...simply...true). In my opinion (again, not worth much, but hey) you very unjustly banned this young man, and probably made him feel inadept and put down upon (which you state very clearly that no one should do to another on this site of yours).
I don't come on here too awful much, as I, myself have been 'attacked' on here in the past. When I do visit this site I am so saddened by the behavior of the grown adults who post here. I really like what this site is 'supposed' to be about, about what it should stand for.....but most of the posts come down to either shouting matches/pointing fingers, and nasty, nasty words being said.
I won't say that I will never post here again, I am not to sure of anything these days...Also, I try to make it a point to never say never. I am just so very dissapointed in the behavior of ALOT of people, and sorry that includes you also, who post on this site.
Well...thanks for listening. I realize that what I say probably has no impact on you whatsoever; that you will more than doubtedly tell me I am all wrong, that you are the boss here, blah..blah. I am, however a human being and I am entitled to my opinions, as long as they don't intentionally 'hurt' anyone.
One last note here.....to all who may read this, KINDLY PLEASE don't give me a whole lot of replies...This posting is truly meant for Dr. Bob and him only. Thank you. P.L.

Well, I suppose I expected that kind of message from you Doctor. Thank you for the reply.
Concerning what you said about him 'posting here'...please try to remember that he was TOTALLY new to this board.
I sit here and wonder why was the 3 Beer Guy not 'blocked', why you only blocked one other person......He was most definatley way more crude and derogitory than that poor young man. I just hope that the young man hasn't been upset by you enough to make him never come here to post again.
Your tactics in 'the running' of this site confuse me, but, once again....I am a nobody, I know, I know..and this IS your site. P.L.

My opinions lie along the same lines as Pamela's. I had voiced them awhile back, but have come to accept that this is how it is.
Now regarding switching boards, redirecting messages, the opinion doesn't show up anymore. Where has it gone?

Is it possible for you to expand the rules of civility section of the FAQ? Although some rules are rather obvious, it seems that a lot of people have been having trouble lately with the not-so-obvious ones. Perhaps you could include some examples?
Counting to ten might not be enough for someone who is truly angry - may I suggest that you add a link to the Anger section of your "Virtual Pamphlet" collection (http://counseling.uchicago.edu/vpc/virtulets.html#Anger)?
Also, perhaps you could re-order the FAQ to make the civility "answer" more visible. (It seems to be the most frequently asked, yet it is located at the bottom of the page.) Maybe you could add a reminder next to the "Submit" button next to the privacy and copyright information links (the small-print "Please be civil" link on the main P[S]B{A,BC} page is often overlooked).
I agree that most users are fully aware when they are being uncivil; but that's not always true.

Hi PL,
You are not a "nobody". Your opinions are well thought out and clearly detailed. They are not, as you say, "not worth much". I found your post to be worth a more thorough response from Dr. Bob than he gave.
Please keep posting,
Sarah

Sarah,
I thank you so very, very much for your kind words to me. I too think that the Doctor could certainly have made more of an attempt to explain things better to me, but from what I have seen of the Doctors posts he is pretty vaque in all replies and sometimes a bit "do it my way or the highway".
It could be me (which actually I know it is not, as I have received a few emails saying the same thing) but, it seems as if when this board first started years ago that it was run much better and the Doctor was more attentive and easy to 'talk' to. Oh well huh? I just couldn't sit back on this one and not say anything.....even if it did fall on deaf ears, you know?Thank you very much again! The support that I have received over this particular matter makes me 'want' to stay at least somewhat active on the boards. P.L.

Please believe me Pamela Lynn, I am not at all trying to be unsupportive of you, or of anyone else, but I feel rather strongly about this as well, since I feel some guilt over the whole thing. I know Jason was new to the board, but he must have read the civility rule in registering. His initial comments to 3 Beer could not be considered remotely civil under any definition of the word. "King of sexual dysfunction" "Piss off man...thanks for nothing" "Retard writes...". And 3 Beer's only "offense" at that time was to try to be helpful. To my everlasting shame, I said nothing, thinking it was not my place. 3 Beer wrote an extremely uncivil reply for which he quite rightly received a warning.
I don't think Dr. Bob's actions in this instance were remotely subjective. I can't even imagine a situation where "piss off" or "retard" in response to a perfectly well intentioned post could be considered civil. And he only received a civility warning for that post.
I really hate writing this post. I don't want to repeat the rude things said to 3 Beer, and I don't want to talk about Jason behind his back. But real people get hurt over this sort of thing. 3 Beer may have left the board at least in part over it, and I can't help thinking it was as much because of the people who said nothing in support of him as it was of the initial incivility. I was one of those people and if 3 Beer is reading this I would like to apologize.
And Dr. Bob, if this post could be considered uncivil gossip, please remove it as well.

Well....as for you're "not at all trying to be unsupportive of me"....don't sweat it Dinah. It doesn't matter to me if you do or don't support me. I did however direct this certain thread to the good Doctor only.....and got very brief statement answers from him as it was.
As for the 3 Beer Guy.....Ohhohohoho I have read MANY posts by that guy that had numerous 'nasty' little words in them, with him quite possibly having upset people...let's not forget "getting laid and that was with a 'fat' chick", etc...
If that man chooses to leave this board (which he pretty much implied that it was pathetic in a recent post, BEFORE the whole 'Jason' thing)....that is his choice isn't it?
As for Jason reading the civility thing, we don't know that now do we....I didn't read it when I first got on here and I was 30 at the time.
EHHHH, ANYWAYS, it just doesn't matter Dinah!!! You see....it generally only falls on deaf ears anyway.
One last thing....I felt rather "strongly" over this matter myself, but you know what? I could really give a darn about it now. This is my last post concerning this whole matter. Thanks P.L.

You still have the option, it's now at the beginning of the "revise your post" section, where it says "board", you should get a popup menu.

PS: Even more changes coming up tonight, I'm going to have to turn off posting for a while...

First, sorry about taking so long to get to this...
Yes, it's *possible*, but see the Potter Stewart quote. But for a long time I didn't even have a civility section. Would you like to make some suggestions? Other boards do go into more detail, for example:
http://www.algy.com/anxiety/disc/faq.html
http://neuro-mancer.mgh.harvard.edu/ubb/faq.html#purposeWould something like that be better? Hmm, should I just link to them?

It's true if I've *already* asked them to be civil. Which is the case with disruptive users.

>Hmm! I like some of the ones from tAPir: "RIGHTEOUS RELIGIOUS APPEALS," "DOGMATIC ASSERTIONS," "AD HOMINEN ATTACKS," "CRASS COMMERCIALISM," and "ONE UPMANSHIP." There are also some that are definitely not appropriate for PB. I really like the primer on Netiquette, too.
The "BrainTalk" rules made my eyes roll so much that I couldn't read them all -- a lot are not appropriate and/or not applicable.> Would something like that be better? Hmm, should I just link to them?
I'd rather you didn't -- mostly for reasons I've mentioned above.
