I don't believe that doctors in general are aware of how bad the side-effects can be, and this is made worse when a patient mentions them and the doctor "poo-hoos" their concerns. Zo pointed out that there has to be a partnership (trust) between the patient and caregiver.
Yes, there are mental illnesses that need medication, but unfortunately many of the medications we have available presently have such adverse affects that they out weigh the benefits or become intolerable. On the positive side new medications are becoming available which are more tolerable.
By no way was I referring to the experiences from this board. I was talking from my own past happenings.

I appreciate the "PBC dance", but I think your post would be fine on the original thread. :-)
When I say "follow-ups regarding supportiveness", I mean posts about whether I was right or wrong to have stepped in, what constitutes "supportive", etc., which would be a digression from the intended topic of the thread.
