Better to keep Social fresher?

Posted by Dr. Bob on March 12, 2001, at 21:02:16

Hi, everyone,

I wonder, might it stimulate participation at Psycho-Social-Babble if I kept it "fresher" by having it archived more frequently? A long list of links to posts might be good for a more informational board, but might inhibit a more social board. What do you think?

well, this is probably one of the least bright responses to the question, but how would turning the board over faster make it more fresh, aside from making it more empty? If people had more to say, it would turn over by itself. So I'm missing a link in my brain. I don't have a strong opinion, just don't quite understand (although everyone else obviously does!) shelli

I was thinking that if it was more empty, people might feel there was more room for them, or maybe less overwhelmed, or something...

Dr. Bob,

While we're on the subject of "freshening," would you consider turning this board over too? It's never been archived and the earliest posts are from November...

Dr. Bob,

I think the "staleness" is more due to the loss of participants around the end of last year. There seems to be a smaller groups of people posting, that's all. Faster archiving won't bring in new participants.

Shazammm!!!!!

Dr. Bob, was the archiving of admin. intentional or coincidental?

Re fewer posters, that may be, but when threads sit there for so long without any additions, it still gives the impression that nothing is happening on the board. It's funny, looking on the social site, it started anew just last month... (did that make sense? I'm not sure I'm making sense today.)

Purely coincidental. :-)

Right, I agree...

Funny in what way?

Ha! I had a feeling I wasn't making sense, or not articulating well what I was thinking. I was thinking that our perceptions are funny; that the current social board began about the first week of Feb. It's only mid-March now and several of us seem to think it's stale and old and needs to be turned over. The admin board on the other hand started in November and no one was complaining it was too old, and it's just turned over for the first time -- almost 5 months later. The last time the social site turned over, it had been up about a month also. Does that make more sense? :)

I have not checked to see how often PB turns over.

to the idea of refreshing the social board more frequently? Is it a go?

Yes, that makes sense. The difference is, I think it would be nice if Social were more active, whereas it's fine with me if there's not much going on here. :-)

> I have not checked to see how often PB turns over.

About every week again. When it got to this point before, a number of people felt kind of overwhelmed by the volume, but I haven't sensed that this time. But still I do wonder again about "Dividing PsychoBabble Into Categories"...

Bob

PS: Yes, it's a go, refreshing it more frequently. It shouldn't be too hard, technically (famous last words!), and we can always go back if we want.

It's a little obsessive, but especially because it's close, I was going to wait until it turned over by itself the old way before switching...

Are you still taking votes on the freshness of the psychobabble-social site?
I posted my message there just 2 days ago and already it's been archived with only 1 response. I wish it was just a little longer. Thanks for listening.

Voting never closes on something like that! :-)

Longer so there would've been more total posts, or so there would've been more reponses to your particular post?

Mine.

But I can see how many loooong conversations can go on and on. Is there a happy medium?
