Some comments carry enough offense to get booted on the first time out, IMHO. I agree completely with booting Bruno. Wonder what Emmanuela thinks.

Please -- give everyone a second chance. We all have bad days. Remember, this board is here to discuss emotional issues, so we all have troubles at some time.
I personally think Dr. Bob is being a little too tough. If it turns into a flame war, then yes, block 'em. But please don't be too hasty.
Shar is right -- ask Emmanuela. If she isn't offended, then let it go.
Ted.

I was not coming down on one side or the other in my last post, just trying to clarify the policy.
I don't feel, however, that the insulted party (Emmanuela in this case) should be reponsible for deciding if he/she is hurt enough for someone to be booted. That creates too much pressure on that person, and I believe the decision should be left to dr. bob, as always. Shellie

Hi Shellie,
Fair enough. I just hope for a wee bit of leniency.

I agree, Shellie. Besides, I think it is offensive to all of us to have someone say that to someone unprovoked like that. That was pretty out there, don't you think?

Again, I'm not defending Bruno; the use of such language on the board is totally nonacceptable. However, in looking back, I do feel that maybe he felt provoked by jokes being made about a situation he was not presenting as a joke. This is the only way, I can understand why he responded like he did. But that is only my guess. Shellie

Shellie, you are probably right. My reading of Emmanuela's joke seems to be very different than Bruno's. I didn't see it as hostile to his feelings, but I can see how maybe he might have. Still, there are other ways to respond. Like shar said, this was quite blatant.

>I'm with Noa and Shellie. I thought his remark came totally out of left field and made no sense in the context of the previous posts. I also feel differently here than I did about Hannah and Dasypodidae. I think wide latitude should be given to people in clear emotional distress, but I just didn't see this with Bruno. Absent extenuating circumstances, there are far less provoking ways to express your displeasure that someone hasn't treated your post seriously enough, if that is even in fact what was going on here. I think there is also value in not reacting in visceral ways. just MHO. ksvt
