Finally got an Appointment at Mayo Clinic

Posted by LarsHoney1 on March 9, 2019, at 10:35:49

Ill be flying to the Minnesota Clinic to see a neurologist there. They asked I bring along the results of the Spinal Tap I had emwhen I had Encephalitis at 13. I believe theyre going along with my suggestion that my Mental Illness could have an Autoimmune Cause. Since I had Autoimmune Encephaliitis when I was 13. And will be testing my Spinal Fluid for AutoAntibodies that could disrupt Neurological Function.

In recent years, many articles have been written on Autoimmunity causing Psychiatric Problems. Theres a berry good book about a woman who suffered and was diagnosed with this called Brain On Fire. She had many symptoms of Psychosis. But long story short, she didnt need Antipsychotics. She needed immune therapy. Since she came from a wealthy family, she went to the best doctors who, instead of pushing pill after pill on her, actually tried to help her. Its sad to think of how many are less fortunate. I expect there are many, many others omwho are suffering from an autoimmune condition causing their suffering. But are only being given Antidepressants and Antipychotics. Because theyre more efficient and cost effective.

I went to the Mayo Clinic for a checkup. This was for digestive problems rather than depression. I was very impressed with their thoroughness. Good luck in Rochester.

My Psychiatrist got all sensitive when I mentioned that I want to look for root causes. Go figure.

I could afford a private doctor or hospital, but I don't know where to go in Germany.

-most- psychiatrists act that way, lamdage. sad...but true. psychiatry in the 21st century is all about palliatives...its kind of like being given cough syrup with untreated pneumonia.

i had a psychiatrist at the clinic...he got all red faced and surly when i mentioned having a seizure during a rapid Klonopin taper way back when. said stuff under his breath. freaked me out, really it did.

maybe one day psychiatry will give way to...real medicine? LOL. Not to sound bitter. I respond to Abilify, I take gabapentin now and then (prescribed), so I 'get' that chemical fixes are sometimes necessary. its just...

over the long haul, I'd like to either discontinue the neuroleptic, or get to a point at which i can low dose it most of the time. oh, that's another thing...

psychiatrists -hate it- when i talk TD. I"m not "ohhhh, i won't take that! TD!," I just say things like "You know, I'd like to lower the Abilify a bit, reduce my TD risk..." and they get flustered. :-(

oh well. my current prescriber seems low key, not so pretentious, more practical and results-oriented. on the downside...

its looking more and more like this prescriber wants me on -2- "mood stabilizers," because of 'severe Bipolar I' or..whatevs.
