Also, Risperidone is AMAZING for Panic disorder

Posted by Jaxter99 on February 28, 2018, at 23:49:16

Hi

I've posted here on and off over several years, asking for advice and usually when there's a problem. (I've posted under a different name because it's been so long I couldn't remember my login). And this time I thought I'd post some positive news!

I've had agoraphobia (with panic attacks) for over 30 years. When I first tried Paroxetine 20 years ago it was life changing for me. I moved overseas, travelled through Europe and South America, which is amazing given that I couldn't even drive to the airport by myself beforehand.

Unfortunately the dreaded poop-out happened (and the panic attacks came back with a vengence) after about 3 years and I went on the merry-go-round trying different SSRIs, trying desperately to replicate the wonderful effect of my first try of paroxetine but to not much success.

After the last one poop-ed out, my psych tried to convince me to try adding in an AP. I was really weary, it seemed to me to be next level stuff. In the end in sheer desperation I agreed to try 1 mg of respiridone. After about 6 weeks of taking it, it was like when I first tried paroxetine. The panic attacks stopped. I was doing amazing things like driving around strange cities, going on school trips with my son and doing stuff I hadn't been able to do for years. My only fear is that it too will poop-out like the rest. There is the downside that it makes me quite tired during the day but I'll take that over panic attacks any day.

Anyway, just wanted to post something happy about meds! (No I am not a drug rep!). Also battling interstitial cystitis at the moment but I've posted that on a separate post.

That is amazing. I dont feel anything on Risperidone good or bad. Slightly more appetite and thats it.

I hope for you that it doesnt poop out. Maybe you can do some therapy now that you feel well to be better equipped IN CASE it pooped out. I think thats about everything you can do right now.

Good luck.

Really? That's great news. May I ask if you have any side effects? 1 mg isn't really a high dose.

Actually I got it wrong - it's 0.5mg I take - but that ends up being stronger because I also take paroxetine which is a strong inhibitor of risperidone.

Side effects are increased appetite (although I only put on a couple of kgs) and tiredness. Sometimes I need a nap in the middle of the day if it's been full on. Luckily I work part time.
