I will stress that alcohol can CAUSE depression, and it CAN help HEAL depression! I can personally attest to that.
A night of getting drunk on beer at the age of 15 started my life-long journey of depression & anxiety.
A night of getting drunk on Roman Cokes (Rum & Coke) "reset" my brains chemistry to where I was able to tackle that depressionand have an improved quality of life.

This line is so true: theres a very fine line between [alcohol] being helpful and harmful,".

yes it does, some people when they drink say at friday night tequila contest, all the dopamine is going for a while then your left trashed after it's wearing off the next day, noticed beer on sosme people can just calm and relax, but there are many times i drink i've had bad depression, im not interested in doing anything, im in this bland no feeling state, it does cause depression, yes....
having a glass of wine or strong drink after a long day is nice, but it increases GABA in the brain, and causing lowering in many nuerotransmitters, serotonin dopamine all of it

Oh, I'm in no way endorsing or encouraging drinking! Like the article states, there's that very fine line that's too risky to flirt with.
I just find it so interesting to finally read something that finally helps explain what might have happened in my personal experience.I find this research falls in line with all these latest reports that are showing the psychedelics can be helpful for resetting a person's neurochemistry.

actually my bad lol, i read the article more in-depth, you know Winston Churchill operated every day on alcohol, with making military or intense decisions, every morning he had a drink, through out the day he had mixture of soda and whiskey, which was low intake but it kept the levels in system still there, he would take 2 hour nap, then eat dinner and have strong drink, then he did all his major work decisions at night. Then he had a night cap, to go to sleep. He never got depressed on it, somewhere i read he function'd better on alcohol intake, each meal he had he always had a champagne, no matter what part of the day. The way he was doing it, not like friday night at the bar.... he would have even amounts of it through the day, not get all one punch of tequila and feel great then pass-out next day......it does increase gaba, which can make you more relaxed and content with everything, release dopamine too, just every time i drink beer 1-2 glasses it makes me dulled out, can't function, depressed.... i have to have like 4-5 glasses get going, but people are different in biochemistry

LOL. The massive MMPI used to have a question, "Do you think drinking alone is a waste of good liquor?". Never could figure that one out. I believe the question was dropped some years ago.
Company is great (why does beer suggest socializing & vodka doesn't?) -- but I can enjoy a boost from a couple of beers with just me & my keyboard too.
This is the end of the thread.
