Wellbutrin, Keppra, anxious...

Posted by Sheilac on November 30, 2016, at 7:09:04

I take 2500mg of Keppra a day and love it as my mood stabilizer. I suffer terribly from depression so my doc added Seroquel, at first 50mg, then 100mg to 200mg. I was still having depression & ADD, so she added 100mg Wellbutrin SR.

It took a few weeks for the depression to totally go away.

A few issues: I think the Seroquel is causes tight, stiff, painful muscles so I cut back to 50mg. 100mg still helped with sleep, but I couldn't take the body pain. I don't know if that goes away with AAPs. Also, I'm not sleeping as great since I started the Wellbutrin.

I have Xanax to take for anxiety. I'm still having the start up jitters and anxiety from the Wellbutrin during the day.

So, I told my doc I didn't want to go up to Wellbutrin SR 150mg for fear of pushing me into mania (I'm very sensitive to meds).

Any clue as to what to do for daytime jitters from Wellbutrin? I also wonder if the wearing off of nighttime Seroquel is causing some shakiness. But I'm hesitant to take Seroquel during the day.

What about better sleep? Right now 2mg of Xanax and melatonin are helping a little. What about skipping the nighttime Xanax and just using ambien?

Current lineup:
Keppra 2500mg
Seroquel 50mg
Xanax 2mg
Wellbutrin SR 100mg

I don't think AAP/AP drugs are the best option for you ((personal opinion, please don't think I'm even pretending to be a professional)).

Women get tardive dyskinesia more than men. People with mood disorders get tardive dyskinesia more than people with Schizophrenia. People in general--but women, in particular--over 40 or so get tardive dyskinesia fairly often.

See where I'm going with this? If you already have muscle stiffness and such, I'd personally drop the seroquel.

Ever tried a tricyclic? Not ideal, but there's one...surmontil...that is more sedating and calming than most other antidepressants, and has a different side effect profile than the other TCA drugs. Its also available in generic and an effective sleeping pill. ((just a thought))

I take 400mgs/wellbutrin, but I get lethargic and fat when I'm depressed, so its a good thing for me. When I went from 200 to 400 per the doctor's orders, I had some jitters that got better with gabapentin I'm prescribed for as needed use.

Wellbutrin can cause mania and such, but I think the risk is supposedly lower than the SSRI, SNRI, and most TCA drugs. I could easily be wrong.

Didn't you take adderall for a while? Could you just ditch the antidepressants and try a carefully calibrated dose of a stimulant? With the other drugs on board, that might help enough to see you through ((wild *ss guess)) .

Hope this helps. Please keep us all posted.

seroquel prolong is better for during the day as it releases the quetiapine for 24h.

Myself i am thinking about switching to more seroquel prolong. Currently 300mg Prolong in the Morning and 650 immediate release at night. I may change to 500mg Prolong and 450 at night.

I like daytime Seroquel as it keeps me stable.

I do like about 25mg of Seroquel during the day. I'm a lightweight. It doesn't take much and it does help my stability, especially if I feel like the Wellbutrin is making me hypomania.

My insurance doesn't cover Seroquel XR, so I have to take the generic immediate release.

Doesnt it cover extended release generics? I have one from the brand AbZ.
