Do I need lamictal AND Latuda?

Posted by porkpiehat on March 7, 2016, at 22:48:58

New doc thinks my low dose celexa is wreaking havoc on my moods. Added 20mgs Latuda to wean off celexa. Still taking 150 mgs lamictal also.

Day 7/8 of the latuda I've been fighting with a really disconnected, foggy feeling off and on. This morning I actually felt fuller emotionally, less angry, but the disconnected feeling got worse through the day. before washing out I really felt like 80 percent of the emotional defenses I've put up had disappeared, so that's either from the latuda or stopping the celexa (I was only at 10-15mgs)

I think taking both the lamictal and latuda is the reason for the fog. I think they both dampen glut and/or DA. I dunno.

I'm still taking 5mgs celexa every other day to wean. The eye swooshies/dizzy/zaps can get pretty intense. I took one tonight and the disconnected feeling is mostly gone. still a little eye wooshies.

At least one of these has to go. Anyone have thoughts on the Latuda/Lamictal interactions?

If I could go without a neuroleptic--no matter how "atypical"--I would. SRI drugs tend to be kind of numbing (they're sort of like emotional novocaine), so I would imagine tapering could cause problems. neuroleptics can be numbing, too, but the newer ones can be trick-sy, especially in low doses.

anticonvulsant+neuroleptic combos are good for people with more severe problems. I take trileptal, lamictal, and Abilify, plus a high dose of Wellbutrin. Without the Wellbutrin, I couldn't tolerate the other meds.

I dunno. I think some docs see mood instability because now the market is flooded with newer neuroleptics. The TD risk is low-ish, so docs prescribe like its the 50s-70s...tranquilizers, sedative, stimulants, etc., all in combination. I guess I"m saying...the neuroleptic+anticonvulsant combo is good for those of us who are moody and prone to psychosis (or for those with schizophrenia, under some circumstances), but its probably not the best combo for people with less severe problems. I don't know how docs can justify the side effects and expense, honestly.

If I were you, I'd think about keeping Lamictal and maybe seeing about a stimulating antidepressant and/or stimulant.
