how does pregabaline effect sleep?

Posted by swim on January 3, 2016, at 5:00:03

Hi and Happy New Year to all!

I have noticed that if i take pregabaline (lyrica) before going to bed, i feel much less depressed the next morning(sometimes the hole day). Usually i feel extremely depressed every day, but with pregabaline before sleep i feel like depression fades for a brief time and i can function. It works like this for few days and then pause is needed for it work again, otherwise it's like clockwork.

It got me thinking that sleep quality may be the key factor in depressed mood. Does anybody have knowledge on how(what mechanism) pregabaline effects sleep?

SSRI's, it's counterparts and other conventional AD's does not work for me unfortunately :(

I hear you,

I recently started taking a supplement called phenebut. It was recently discovered that phenebut binds to the same subunit of the calcium channel as gabapentin / pregabalin.

When I take this substance I have less anxiety at night, and my sleep is more deep. I too wake up in a much better mood that can last for a few days.

I agree that there is a huge link between sleep quality and mood.

I noticed the same sort of mood improvement with zopiclone, but not other sedatives.

Pregabalin enhances slow wave sleep. Pubmed has a couple of studies about pregabalin, and in particular, GAD sleep disturbance.

Before pregabalin, I was hypnotic dependent with difficulty initiating sleep, sleep fragmentation, and early awakening. (I was also dx'd with GAD.) Pregabalin has changed my life, and I wish someone had prescribed this years ago.

I agree that my mood is much better and stays that way throughout the day(s).

Sleep quality affects mood and anxiety levels most definitely.

This is very important information. I had no idea. Thanks.

How long did it take for pregabalin to improve GAD?

How long did it take for pregabalin to improve sleep, and mood?

Unfortunately, both pregabalin and gabapentin are poison to me. It might be related to alpha2delta subunit binding to the calcium channel. I really don't know. I can take either of these drugs for 1 week and experience profound cognitive impairments. After discontinuation, these impairments persist for 4-6 weeks. It is very, very trying to live from day to day that way.

Horse, are you taking any other medication at this time?

Anyone how have tried pregabaline, did it take time to start working like antidepressants or was it more like benzos, kicking in right away?
