Berberine

Posted by linkadge on September 19, 2015, at 16:33:49

I know this is a supplement, but I thought I'd mention I just purchased a berberine supplement. It has 500mg of berberine per cap.

It apparently has antibiotic, antidiabetic MAOI and reuptake inhibiting effects. It is also a sigma agonist.

This is the first time I am trying it alone in a concentrated high potency.

A bit of irritability after the first dose... I'll let you know how it goes.

Linkadge,

Berberine sure is an interesting little supplement. I've tried it at least twice and didn't experience any lasting benefits from it, but then again, I did use small amounts of the supplement (I tried less than a full capsule). I hope that your trial with berberine will produce some results that you'll be happy with. Good luck.

I got 500mg caps, and used probably 100mg or so. Yes, there is an effect. It seems to significantly improve my ruminative / OCD symptoms.

I get a visual brightening effect from it.

I've been on berberine for close to 3 years. It is, in my journeys, one of the world's few true super herbs. A miracle plant.

The number of different mechanims of berberine within the body are staggering. We're talking blood sugar, neurotransmitters, inflammation, bacteria, fungi, yeast, toxins, blood pressure, on and on. The entire list of mechanisms actually fills up half a page of paper typewritten single spaced with just a comma in between each.

For me it started as antibiotic for Lyme. At the same time, it was anti-yeast from the antibiotics. At the same time it was balancing my blood sugar which was all over the map. At the same time it seemed to provide a sense of grounding or calming. It eased pains.

Anyway, a few times I have run out and didn't order more. Those were the times I realized how much it was doing for me, and had to reorder with overnight shipping! The first thing that suffers without it, is my mood.

At i-Herb I order mine as Phyto-Biotic. Thorne Research has two different berberine strengths available. The strongest I had was Coptis Root from Dr Zhang in New York City. He uses it for Lyme treatment and yeast treatment. Berberine is found in several plants, but the Coptis Root seemed most potent....but also too expensive.

Phyto-biotic berberine....seriously I don't think I could do without it. I take a half dose as maintenance but whenever I feel a little bit not right I go back to full dose.

It is a long term thing. You don't want to approach it, or any herb for that matter, as a 6 week proposition like meds. The horizon needs to be more like 6 months and forever.

In my experience herbs usually work better than meds, but they take much longer to do so. Start it now, but don't even think about making any judgements until 2016. It has nothing in common with a med, so don't approach it as one.

Me and berb are good friends and just wanted to share.
