tardive dementia

Posted by Christ_empowered on April 17, 2015, at 18:31:16

You know how I sometimes post about how I was stupid, and now I'm not? Yes, well...there's a word for the particular form of stupid, according to my ex-shrink: tardive dementia.

I also had some bizarre tics related to neuroleptic treatment. Everything has since resolved, praise God, although I still require a neuroleptic, lol.

Its crazy...I had maybe a 95 IQ, on a good day. Dull normal. What's worse is that my cognitive abilities and social skills and memories left me...and that was that. Loser from a rinky dink, middle class family. On the rubbish heap by 19-20...

...and now I'm 30, and getting things together. I don't know my IQ. My former shrink told me I"m "smart" and told me I should consider becoming a counselor...so its not 95, not anymore (praise God!).

I'm hoping and praying that Orthomolecular will prevent TD and the "other" TD, tardive dementia, this time around. I'm thinking that avoiding Rx amphetamines will help, too, especially at the doses I took when I was younger...I don't know why, it just makes sense intuitively.

So...yeah...if you're on a neuroleptic--especially if there are alternative for your issues--and you sense your cognitive abilities slipping, think about a taper.

:-)
