I've been on Klonopin for a long time which has been about 80% helpful. Recently looked into more ideas, and Magnesium has been a huge benefit. Because it has been so great, I've looked at other options. So far the ones that seem most promising are Taurine, Valerian Root and L-Theanine. I don't want to try all 3 at once. One at a time also lets me determine what helps.
Has anybody had any experience with any of these?

I have been using l-theanine, and find it has a moderate but definite effect on anxiety. No side effects that I know of - I like it.
I also use Valerian sometimes for sleep, and find it also helpful and benign.

Did you notice an immediate impact with L-Theanine? Also, what brand/dosage do you take?
Thanks

I have tried those three. Of the three, theanine probably works best for me. However, I prefer niacin to all of these. It's much cheaper and more effective for me.

Interesting, I haven't seen Niacine pop up anywhere when I've done research - I'll have to look into it. Brand/Dosage?
Also that's 2 votes for L-Theanine...Brand/Dosage on that?
Thanks!

The brand for theanine is Country Life. I noticed a moderate response within about 30 minutes.

>Hi. There is a book out co-written by Nutritionist Patrick Holford. In that book they show exactly how to come off of benzodiazepines by using Valerian & Kava Kava. The book is not The Feel Good Factor but another similarly titled book. I'll try and find it.
Others are:
Picamilon
5-HTP
Calcium + Zinc (balanced with your magnesium)
B6 and the whole B-complex generally
Rhodiola
The nootropic Aniracetam. (a recent discovery of mine. Not know what a 'nootropic' is? Wiki it).
Hops (unless you are depressed!)
Ginseng (I find Siberian Ginseng best as its more balancing. Korean can lift mood but can cause anxiety. American Ginseng will chill you out but may make you drowsy).
St.John's WortThere are literally hundreds of otc supplement to choose from for anxiety & mood. Those are what come to mind right this minute. Many good alternatives out there. Only one problem may arise. And that is spending lots of money trying to find one which works! And I will try and find that book title.

For niacin, I'm sure any reputable brand is good. I would use 100mg or less a day. Start with 50mg if you can.

I think its Patrik Holford's book 'Natural Highs' that contains the method of using Valerian & Kava to come off benzos.

I take 6 grams/day of niacinamide (1.5 gram time release tablets, 2 AM and 2 PM), 2-4 grams taurine (1-2 doses), 12 grams vitamin C (6 time release 1 gram tablets AM and the same PM), and B-100 complex (2 AM, 2 PM).

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:

The first time anyone refers to a book, a movie, or music without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she is at least aware of it.

Taurine is an NMDA antagonist. Its helpful for things like panic and OCD. I don't know about GAD.
Valerian Root works for anxiety, but it really hits the liver hard - its hepatoxic.
There's also NAC which can help with anxiety.
Glycine can work real well for anxiety.
