Last time I went to see my pdoc I told him I still had sexual dysfunction on Abilify 10mg and he said he would lower the dose next time so I am guessing it would probably be 5mg or something lower then 10mg...
I was wondering is this effective against prevent psychosis?

revv33,
I can't tolerate 10 mg (or even 7 mg) of Abilify because I experienced very strong feelings of fatigue at that dose, and I also haven't tolerated the other antipsychotics that I've tried well (mostly due to either increased fatigue or increased psychosis). Taking 5 mg of Abilify, although it doesn't completely rid me of my psychotic symptoms, does keep my ideas of reference at bay and makes my auditory pseudohallucinations, auditory sound hallucinations, and visual dysperceptions much less of a problem than they were before I started taking Abilify. Furthermore, 5 mg of Abilify doesn't seem to exacerbate my fatigue like higher doses of the medication do, which makes it the only medication for my psychosis that I can say is more or less tolerable. Despite not exacerbating my fatigue, Abilify doesn't seem to *help* with my fatigue very much or help with my concentration and other cognitive difficulties. The vitamin D3 that I take for my vitamin D insufficiency helps with my fatigue, my concentration, and my other cognitive difficulties to a small extent and might help more the longer I stay on it. But for me, Abilify does have antipsychotic properties at 5 mg, although it doesn't bring about a full remission of my psychosis.

When it comes to psychotropic drugs and their clinical effects, there is going to be some variability in the way different individuals react to them. I guess it is possible that you would find 5 mg/day of Abilify effective, but the majority of people need a minimum of 10 mg/day. Abilify is not the most potent drug against the positive symptoms of schizoid disorders. In fact, it might actually work against other antpsychotics like Seroquel. I saw one person's dosage requirement of Seroquel go from 400 mg/day to 900 mg/day when Abilify was added. It returned to 400 mg/day once Abilify was discontinued. Abilify added very little, if any, improvement in her schizoaffective disorder. They later responded to a combination of Navane and Saphris. Unfortunately, her sex drive has disappeared.
I don't think that reduced sex drive is very common with Abilify, although it is reported. Some people become hypersexual with Abilify. Perhaps this population is predominantly bipolar. If you are experiencing a loss of sex drive with Abilify at 10 mg/day, I'm not sure that this side effect would disappear at 5 mg/day.
Are there any antipsychotics that do not decrease your sex drive?

on the aggregate level...I wouldn't think so, like SLS said. I mean, dosing antipsychotics is tricky. Some people respond to 1mgs Haldol, 5mgs loxapine, they're good to go. Some people are fine of 10mgs Abilify...I take 30. And other stuff, too, lol.
So...yeah, its highly variable, and there are no guarantees. I'd think this would particularly true of Abilify, since 10mgs is the usual minimum for psychotic disorders and it has that weird mechanism of action.
Sorry about your side effects. Are you taking anything else that might be combining w/ the Abilify to = these problems?
