I recently started Mirapex to combat the sexual side-effects of Nardil which have persisted for 2 years on 75 mg/day.
I am on 1.5 mg/day of Mirapex and it is working wonders. My sexual function is completely restored and it is even helping my dyspraxia. I am standing up straight and controlling my body language like never before. It's crazy because strangers react to me much more positively even though I feel as if I am not doing anything different.
Anyways, I have read some horror stories of Mirapex withdrawl and am worried that it won't work long term and I will be forced to go through hell with all my anxiety and depression coming back.
What do you guys think? Is this mostly a case of the squeaky wheel or should I get off this med before it's too late?
I would really appreciate to hear from some people with experience taking Mirapex in this dosage or higher.
Thanks,
Nick

i'm not a very good resource for technical info here but i like this site to get a general idea of what people think about their drugs.

Don't worry about it. Its a good medication with neuroprotective properties. If you must come off it, come off it slowly.

I've been on mirapex a number of times. Always works well at the beginning but poops out or causes some degree of compulsive issues or hyper sexuality. Doc thinks at some point dopamine receptors simply down regulate. But as I am on 90mg of nardil, started it 2.5 months ago, and dealing with sexual side effects, I'm very curious as to your response, what specifically were you dealing with after 2 years still?
I'm dealing with anorgasmia but no ED or loss of libido.
You consider any other dopamine agonists? Or buspar? What do you mean about controlling body language and strangers responding??

What do you mean about controlling body language and strangers responding??I've been dealing with anorgasmia, ED, and low libido off an on for the whole time I've been on Nardil. Sometimes it seems to clear up for a while but always seems to return at inopportune times. Mirapex has completely fixed all three of these issues so far.
By controlling body language, I mean I have always had trouble with coordination, controlling certain muscle groups independently, and movement sequencing. Basically I just have really awkward body language that Mirapex seems to reduce. I've noticed strangers seem friendlier right off the bat which I can only attribute to subtle changes in body language.
How long did it take for your mirapex to poop out and did you experience any withdrawal symptoms?

honestly it poopped out probably a few weeks to maybe 1-2 months, not sure, but pretty soon. those receptors downregulate quickly given constant stimulation. DAs are weird too, esepcially mirapex, as it agnoizes presynaptic receptors at low doses before it gets to post.
i've heard of horror stories of mirapex withdrawal. i can't remember, but i did know i had to go off pretty slowly, decreasing doses over time. i know going off from 1.5mg right away is a bad deal for me...restless legs, mood, anhedonia etc.
really wish DAs could maintain effectiveness for me in the long term, i know they do for some people.
i may have posted in another thread, but i'm actually trying nardil with disulfiram for similar issues ( for me, mostly motivational issues, but dopamine nonethess). my pdoc says its fairly experimental and he's never done it before, but i'm seeing pretty great results for motivation and mood, though not so much for anorgasmia. was on it for about 5 weeks at 250-500mg, but went off last week because i wanted to drink for 4th of july, and to test out whether disulfarm was really having an impact with the nardil. i can confirm it was, so looking forward to going back on!
(disulfiram is also a dopamine beta hydroxilase inhibitor)
This is the end of the thread.
