Need Help With A Bonafide Problem

Posted by Phillipa on February 17, 2014, at 11:40:37

As I know you all know as I mention it too much. I now need help with losing l0lbs, and getting my BP back from mid 120's over 80's to what it was a few months ago which was low 100's over 70's. I was at the endos a few months ago and his scale said I gained l0 lbs. And Bp higher then too. And they use a real blow up cuff so it was accurate. And done twice. I rechecked yesterday at the pharmacy where it always is in the low l00's over 70 too. And was higher. Diet is granola, no fat Greek yougurt to mix it in and some blackberries on top, half banana, and half sandwich at lunch, one slice of bread, one slice of turkey, half a piece of low fat swiss cheese. During day two bottles of cold green tea and water. Then ride most days 6 miles on bike. Do the PT excercises when done as in so much pain. Then eat the dark chocolate. And I admit to a lot to feel like I have something in my mouth. Since can't taste I need something. Then dinner 1/2 cup organic veggies microwaved, 2 oz of chicken not fried, and a small 1/2 of baked potatoe. That is it for the day. Since my Dad and Grandfather both died at age 71 of first sign of cardiac disease. I wonder what I can do to get the l0 lbs off and lower blood pressure. Still take 2.5mg of Lexapro, 25 mg of luvox, .75 total of Xanax, and 7.5mg of valium. So what now? Thanks Phillipa

your diet is admirable! maybe supplements? high doses of taurine can lower blood pressure and LDL cholesterol. I think its take 6+ grams/day.

Fish oil? Green tea extract?

Fish oil is never a bad supplement. I drink decaf green tea every day, unsweetened. It's part of my daily diet. I take the fish oil at night to avoid the burpies.

120s/80s is normal though. Also, as you know, BP can fluctuate a lot, not just day to day but month to month. I'm generally 100s/70s but sometimes will be higher for extended periods. As long as its normal, healthy range, why worry?

Also, doesn't everyone in America want to lose 10 pounds? You know how to do it - eat less, exercise more for a couple of months.

Can't eat much less. As for exercise. Boy nothing I would love to more than exercise more. I would give just about anything to be able to run again. Unfortunately the OA & Spinal Stenosis, and Curvature of Spine prevent it due to pain. It's so hard to accept that I'm not as young as I once was. Where does the time fly to? And the bp I firmly believe is due to stress. I've stopped a lot of meds and don't want more. So much keeps coming out on the dangers of meds. I was on Carlson's fish oil professional for a while. I think will have to add this back. Did add back an extra dose of b6 50mg today. I also heard that Niacin is good for BP. I know you get the flush with this. But niacinamide doesn't help or does it? Hi Phillipa- Can I ask, what do you do for pain management? Maybe you can work on your pain management strategies so that you can be more active, sounds like you want to be able to exercise more?

The PT excercises and a recommended back belt elasticized to wear when excercising. I don't take pain medication. Seems now that warning on all the over the counter meds like motrin for cardiac disease. Nothing is safe anymore. Phillipa

I'm don't know what type of pain you're dealing with, but have you ever tried Lidoderm patches? I think the side effects/risks are low, and I find them very effective. But if the pain is a large part of body or whole body pain than oral med is better. herpills

Whole back down the legs so it's a lot. Oral would be the choice but refuse to get hooked on pain meds. I do know those patches. And my heating pad at night works well. I asked the neuro spinal surgeon why they don't make the morphine patches and the other ones in very very low doses as he said the ones available are soooo strong. With America aging and so much arthritis you would think something easy like a pain med in a patch of varying degrees would be something the boomers would benefit from a lot. Phillipa
