shrinks aren't known for profound insight into life or warm and fuzzies, especially now that we're living in the days of the 5-15 minute med check (most of us, anyway...).
Just try to seek out other sources of comfort and don't let your shrink get you down. They're really just there to keep you from going so completely off the wall that you can't function. It might be time to lower your expectations.

ok...wow...some shrinks just aren't good at their jobs. That's kind of sad, considering all they have to do is chit chat for 15 minutes and drug you up (I say that as a fellow patient).
Maybe its time for a switch?

Why don't you just ask him what he/she would do if that happened to them....don't say in like an insulting way....and if they of course say use those cognitive behavior therpy counselors...just say it is seriously effecting your life, and be elabroate, don't let them minimize your situation with simple intellect, they don't see the whole picture and think they know it all. I had a counselor that would question and minimize my distress and then try to confuse my thoughts with riddle like awnsers, doctors can be some seriously mental manipulators to their view of treatment....won't give you what you need to succeed, that's when you switch But anyways just play along with their questions and lead it with eleboration.

Under no circumstances should you stop cymbalta cold turkey. That withdrawal is a b****

dude, a lot of shrinks are full of crap. And themselves. Maybe he thinks you're tough enough to handle sudden discontinuation of the medication? Maybe he's just bad at his job? The reasons for that particular suggestion are numerous, and none of them reflect well on your shrink.

Don't get me wrong; I've done both Paxil and cymbalta cold turkey (both because I was very sick and couldn't keep the meds down) and you can get through it. I don't know that the acute withdrawal causes any long term damage. Just doesn't seem a reasonable suggestion from a pdoc.

My pdoc told me to quit Pristiq cold turkey, then proceeded to warn me about the side effects of Lovaza, without once mentioning Pristiq again and what withdrawal symptoms I may experience, how long they may last, etc....I wonder all the time...herpills
