I have just started on a low dose(25mg)
I was prepared to have a rough week or two as always when starting a new med but, unbelievably, the only S/E I'm getting is mild chest pain.Sleeping well. Pulse is still 60. Pressure OK. Do I need to be concerned ? . Has anyone ever had a heart attack on sub therapeutic doses of a Tricyclic ? I have high hopes for imipramine.

First glad all going well. Then ask yourself do I have risk factors for heart issues, then what is your age and family history, have you had a baseline EKG? Then assess your risk factors. How bad is pain and where is it. Sounds like you are happy with your first week so that is great. Phillipa

Phillipa, thank you, yes it is a bit of a revelation for me not to have horrid startup effects. I plan on increasing very gradually over the next month.
Its like a heavy feeling in the middle, feels like when you have a horrible chesty cold. I am late thirties, I had a ECG last year, all was OK. Not overweight and do light excercise twice a week.
Actually the pain has eased slightly since earlier. Its just such a worry having chest pains then the more you think about it the worse it gets.
I hope you are doing OK.

I experience chest pain with Nortriptyline. I have found that supplementing with mini aspirin and high-potency fish oil helps. Also my heart seems to adapt to any dose increases within the span of a month, after which time the intensity of cardiac side effects lessen (I also experience tachycardia and palpitations).
Best to consult a doctor before adding aspirin but to my knowledge fish oil doesn't clash with anything. It's also good for the brain.
