I have switched a couple of times from Effexor to Cymbalta; I don't have any experience with Savella, but the article in Wikipedia sounds like it has similar SNRI profile to Cymbalta.
While withdrawing completely from Effexor can be very rough, I have never had any trouble switching to another SNRI or SSRI (in particular Cymbalta & Lexapro respectively). I simply overlapped for a week or two decreasing doses of one with increasing doses of the other. Your pharmacist or pdoc can advise you on equivalent doses (my pharmacist was very helpful).

I also have always just done a switch over with no side effects noted. I guess this depends on the person of course. And I wonder if you in are a responder to ad's if the withdrawal occurrs then? Phillipa
