Update? Hope you are still doing well :). Still Improving or at least maintaining some improvement?
I am thinking of tapering Effexor XR and switching to Viibryd as well. The Klonopin and trleptal are helping but the effexor XR is causing some anxiety I think. Either going to try Viibryd or the zoloft welbutrin or zoloft nortriptaline combination.

Mind reader how did you know was thinking same on both accounts and would love to know in simple terms how viibryd is different from other meds. As I'd thought was another SSRI. Thanks for posting this thread. Phillipa

I can see that my depression is lifting. It is a gradual process that seems to be stable and not liable to mood fluctuations. I think the lithium is largely resonsible for this. My gut tells me that my steady response is a product of the 5-HT1a receptor partial agonism interacting with the 5-HT releasing property of lithium.

I am doing better. :-) It might be months before I feel improved enough to feel "well". I am able to exercise some patience with Viibryd, primarily because it demonstrates a persistent antidepressant effect.
Thanks.

What is Effexor lacking that you feel is necessary to produce a robust therapeutic effect?

I have experienced a transient startup increase in anxiety during the second week that has since dissipated. I experienced this also with Lexapro. With both drugs, the anxiety was absent by the end of the third week. Prozac is another serotonergic drug that often produces this response pattern.
For the moment, I am responding favorably to:
Viibryd 40mg
nortriptyline 150mg
Lamictal 200mg
Abilify 10mg
lithium 300mg

I am so happy to hear that the effects of viibryd aren't diminishing for you- fingers crossed that slow and steady wins the race this time!!!! :)
