Hi guys,
I would like to ask my pdoc next week if I can try Parnate + Memantine. I have been on Parnate a few times, and each time it is only effective for anhedonia during the early stimulation phase, for about 2 weeks.
After tolerance to the stimulation develops, it still manages to take care of the depression (which only Nardil also does) and anxiety, but the anhedonia persists, even after a year of treatment. I am hoping that the memantine could help the tolerance problem.
Stimulants are totally unprescribable here in Aus :( Hopefully memantine is a different case.
Has anyone else here had any experiences with this combo?

Hmm, I'm just guessing here, given that I'm obviously not acquainted with your psychiatrist, but I'd think you might hard pressed to be prescribed Memantine for tolerance prevention. It's also only on the PBS for Alzheimer's in Aus, so you might end up paying a pretty penny. That said, I seem to recall that desolationrower combined the two. You could try PM'ing him.

Thanks, will do. I think I might have a chance, he's been really good, we've tried pretty much everything that's extremely off-label in oz, amisulpride, modafinil, zyban in place of wellbutrin. Stimulants are out his jurisdiction however. The other thing I want to push to him is Nardil + a TCA, which might also be a hard sell.

Alright, just seen my psych. He was very confused and hesitant when I popped the word memantine, but he's agreed to give it a go, even though he thinks this isn't going to work.
Going to start 5mg memantine tomorrow, hopefully the blunting isn't too bad the first few days (have to give a presentation the next day!) and will raise it to 10mg after that. Will then start on 50mg parnate and soak up that sweet normal feeling for as long as it can last.
I'll keep you guys posted on how this goes.
This is the end of the thread.
