I've said it before, Geodon is a funky med. Still not sure I like it.
The other night I ate pizza for dinner & took Geodon. Slept like a rock. The next night I ate salad w/chicken (not as much fat) for dinner and took Geodon. I couldn't fall asleep, I was restless and slept poorly. Guess I needed more fat for the Geodon.
I like the fact that Geodon doesn't cause weight gain, but I just feel like I can't depend on this med, it's too unpredictable. I am trying to diet and lose weight - so sometimes Geodon kicks in and sometimes it doesn't.
Also - since starting Geodon, my vision has gone to crap. I've had to start wearing reading glasses for everything! It has really effected my vision.
Doc said an option is to go back to Seroquel at night for good sleep (love that sleep), Klonopin as needed and low dose 2mg Abilify during day.
I may have to give Abilify a shot. Doc said you can or can't take it with food, it doesn't matter.
Maybe Abilify would be more dependable more predictable?! I have found Geodon very frustrating this summer!

Just to back you up, my pdoc, talking out loud to himself, said geodon is very ' tricky'. His word. He didn't elaborate, so I can't give you any insight, really. I have seen in your posts that it's been a bit of a wild ride gaining stability on geodon for you.
I don't know what that's about. Maybe someone here knows more enough about geodon to shed some light.
Good luck!

Look at Latuda (lurasidone). It is related to Geodon (ziprasidone) and is weight neutral.

I didn't find geodon very sedating at all. I started drinking alcohol at night to sleep when on geodon. Thats why the dose was so high, 60mg x4. My vision was very blurry too, doc said would go away with the med, which it did, just took a while. I didn't have good results with abilify, but a guess you should try it. 2mg can be very powerfull with abilify, does not take much. Just listen to your body while on abilify, if its not working stop it right away. For me the longer I was on it the worse I got, and the harder it was to recover.

Apparently, lots of people are on Abilify+Seroquel. Googling it, I found that there are some reports of Abilify helping people stabilized on other antipsychotics (I saw one about Haldol; I don't recall any w/ an antypical).
Anyway, the combo could work. If you keep the seroquel dose low, its more of a tranquilizing antihistamine. Abilify is supposedly stimulating in higher doses, but I seem to recall relief from psychotic depression @ 7.5mgs/day. Then again, I was "neuroleptic-naive" (previously untreated with neuroleptics) at that point, I may just have been more sensitive to the medication.
I personally think you'd benefit from the standard dose for Abilify, 10-15mgs. That should calm you down a bit without sedating you.

Last time I tried Abilify the side effect I didn't like is that it made me retain water and swell up. I hated that, it made me feel fat. Maybe if I took Abilify every other day or something it wouldn't be so bad. Or I would have to take a water pill with it. I have worked so hard to lose weight, I would hate to blow up with water weight.
I wonder if it would have the same antidepressant effects that Geodon has had.
Also, I wonder if I would gain weight. Maybe just water weight. Yuk.

Sheila,
Didn't you feel good on abilify except for the water weight ? I can't remember.
What dose were you at before?
