I take 45mg Nardil for Depression and SP. The side-effects are becoming intolerable for me (the worst being weight gain and low energy). My doc suggested I give Parnate a try and that I could do so without doing a Nardil washout.
I've tapered off Nardil a few times in the past and I went into deep anxiety and depression. A full washout would damage my standing at work and I could even lose my job. I have 2 kids to support and can't take that risk.
Is this safe? Has anyone tried it?

ijust recently checked the FDA website on parnate (my husband says it slows my speech, but I think it is the dry mouth he is reacting to). They say two week washout between MAOIs or, at best, one week washout and start the next drug at half regular dose. In either case, you will be med free for a time. OTOH, the MAOI inhibition of Nardil will continue for two full weeks after you stop taking it as your brain readjusts, so you may feel ok.

>I don't know of a reason not to. I would maybe do it over a weekend (assuming cubicle drone schedule like me), skip a dose friday, and take the first dose of parnate monday morning. this would eleminate most of the phenelzine from your system at least.
MAOIS are old enough that they aren't really well characterized, i suppose there is potential for something to happen. enzyme inhibiting molecules are not cognizable from agonist/antagonist rules. if it was my life, i would risk it.
