I'm considering asking my p/doc to prescribe clomipramine to me. I've tried numerous other antidepressants, antipsychotics and anxiolytics but with little success.
My main problems are depression, lack of motivation, severe GAD and panic disorder. Is clomipramine likely to successfully treat these? I've read that it's not usually prescribed for depression. Is it not an effective antidepressant? Is it no more effective than the SSRIs??
Also what are the common side effects?

Anafranil is one of the most effective tca's available. Most controlled studies have found it to be superior to SSRI, SNRI for the treatment of depression. I have been on anafranil for some time and have found it to be excellent at eliviating depression and chronic pain. Side effects include dry mouth, dizyness when standing up and the other usual side effects common to all tca's. Hope that helps. Good luck.
